| The Proclaimers – Scotland's Story Lyrics | 12 years ago |

Well, it seems pretty obvious what the song is about. It's an attack on animosity and hatred towards people who aren't "pure" scots, like asian or eastern european immigrants. The Proclaimers are objecting to the idea that just because you're not Scottish born and raised and with ancestry stretching back to the Celts it makes you somehow a lesser person. This stanza in particular, I think highlights this: In Scotland's story I'm told that they came The Gael and the Pict, the Angle and Dane But where's all the Chinese and Indian names? They're in my lands story and they're all worth the same A very uplifting and important message, this, and Craig and Charlie deserve a big pat on the back for preaching it. |

I really enjoy this song, primarily for the music. Mark Knopfler is absolutely phenomenal, love singing along to this song. I don't really have anything to add about the lyrics, everything's already been pretty neatly covered. I do quite enjoy them as well, though, Mark's voice is great. |

Absolutely love this song. The way I see it it's a song about how life has its ups and downs. Now I wish you sunny skies And happiness wherever you may go But you got to realise There'll be wind, there'll be rain And occasional snow Struggle is a part of life, and to truly live you need to accept that and face it. Also, this: Now they maybe ain't too hot for dancing But I don't foresee too much of that You ain't exactly gonna be prancing Around in the moonlight With a cane and a top hat The ironic thing is that this is PRECISELY what I feel like doing when I listen to this song. Gives me a huge smile every time I hear it. |
