This song is about friendship between boys or maybe brothers. The verses take you through their life together. First they are young and innocent with not a care in the world. Then they are a bit older learning about life but still under their parents eye or not fully adults. This is represented by the reference to the big light. Then they reach adulthood and support each other through life. In circles of friendship and support. Then the last verse is that he knows they will be friends until they die. It seems intentional that this verse does not have " on, and on, and on and on" It is a beautiful song of friendship that started as children and lasted a lifetime.
