Florence did say that this album would be more raw and more real than the previous two; it is, and you can see that in this song. She is in a relationship with a lover who is as indecisive as Hamlet about whether to give their romance his all or not, and yet he has this power over Florence that renders her desperately devoted to him. With one kiss, he was able to entice a fiery and powerful fidelity in Florence towards him. Yet he never makes up his mind; she is broken because of this, yet cannot leave and chooses to toil, "crossing a canyon", passing on and moving towards him, while he stands on the other side still uncertain. As a result, she is heavily burdened, "on a heavy tip" of some scales. Moreover, "dangle at a cruel angle" further accentuates his power over her; he has her in a situation in which she has no control and is pained, as if she were dangling at some painful angle. She, on the other hand, is powerless, hence keeps repeating the lines about the fiery fidelity and devotion he summons from her, as well as the damage he wrecks on her, over and over. By describing him as a "holy fool", she both highlights his indecisiveness as well as his potence; as if he were holy he almost seems almighty with the way she cannot break free from him and worships him. Describing him as blue may allude a comparison to the sky -which in turn, alludes the album-, and this could be to show that he is everywhere in her world: , big, blue, and beautiful. She cannot beat him and she beseeches him for mercy, whenever she thinks she is over their relationship she is pinned back to the wall, figuratively, as her mad devotion and love for him take over. What Kind of Man loves like this? Unsure of their relationship, yet binding her to him with some misbegotten curse, Florence shrieks this tune, coughing up reality, instead of wanting to "leave her body" to another realm, "shaking it out", or calling upon some dark world of ghouls, as she would have done in Ceremonials. |

I think this song actually refers to "Catching Fire" by Suzan Collins Amy is Katniss Save your twisted enemy: So you might earn forgiveness Katniss is talking to herself saying that she needs to save her twisted evil enemy: president Snow, form uprisings and rebellions from sparking. so he can forgive you and not kill your loved ones. You know your whole world is waiting Still talking top herself, this is when she should talk to people in the districts and calm things down, the whole of Panem is waiting for the girl on fire to speak. So why can't you speak? but she can't, she doesn't know how to do this, she is a rebellious icon, one wrong move could send Panem into a revolution I feel it coming over me she feels the tension, fear, madness, indecision and other intense feeling encompassing her, coming over her like a huge wave about to drown her. I'm still a slave to these dreams she is still enslaved to dreams of a Panem without injustice, and a better life, a life without the hunger games. she dreams of these all the time to the point where she feels enslaved by them, though, they are not true, and might never be. Is this the end of everything? she is living an awful life, pretending to love peeta, being a puppet of the Capitol. living on the brink of rebellion. Dreadful emotions, feels like everything is ending, dying. ALL because of the games Or just a new way to bleed? or is this just a new way to bleed, hurt, suffer? I tried to kill the pain Amy tried to end her pain, which I think actually represents a sin, since repenting sins brings pain. But only brought more (So much more) She failed at ending her sin (because she is too addicted and can't stop, or try to cover it up and committed worse sins whilst attempting that) I lay dying And I'm pouring, crimson regret, and betrayal The guilt and remorse is unbearable, she can't fix it and can't forgive herself (perhaps she has committed that sin before and stopped, but returned to it and can't heal herself once more). She feels she is dying, describing her huge amount of regret as blood(the regret is flowing fast like blood from a wound). Also, she feels that she has betrayed herself for committing that sin again. I'm dying Praying She is turning to God for indulgence and mercy, to lessen the awful burden of guilt on her chest, which feels like dying, or worse. Bleeding Screaming Showing the signs of a tortured soul, even more tortured since the sufferance was caused by her own self. Am I too lost to be saved? Am I too lost? She wonders whether she is too deep within sin to be saved from the torment and receive salvation. My God! My tourniquet She is turning to God for help, her sins are the wound,and regret is the blood pouring out. She needs God to act as a tourniquet to cease the sin and repent.
