| Your comment sounds a lot like the plot of Breaking Bad... this song should be theme of Breaking Bad rather than Suits... | |

I know I'm kinda late now, and a few of you have used quotations from Ryan Tedder to support your evidence, but here goes nothing... I think the singer is caught in between two great ages: adolescence and maturity. Verse 1: "I see this life Like a swinging vine Swing my heart across the line In my faces flashing signs Seek it out and ye shall find" He is trying to interpret his life, and he's aware that he is risking himself, but he continues anyway. It is very obvious to him (flashing signs), and is consulting multiple resources to find out ("seek; and ye shall find" is a section of Matthew 7:7, thus he is looking over multiple religions) "The old, but I'm not that old Young, but I'm not that bold And I don't think the world is sold I'm just doing what we're told" He is wedged between different ages (the old, but not that old, young, but I'm not that bold) and knows he is not as stupid as before. Teens are known as chatterboxes and complainers, and one of their arguments being 'the world is sold', and he is 'just doing what he's told' because he is not in full control yet. 'I, feel something so right But doing the wrong thing I, feel something so wrong But doing the right thing I could lie, could lie, could lie Everything that kills me makes me feel alive' He obviously knows what he is doing is wrong, but wants to go back to his younger days and redo it. 'Lately I been, I been losing sleep Dreaming 'bout the things that we could be Baby I been, I been prayin' hard Said no more counting dollars We'll be counting stars Lately I been, I been losing sleep Dreaming 'bout the things that we could be But baby I been, I been prayin' hard Said no more counting dollars We'll be, we'll be counting stars' He's been spending a lot of time finding himself, and is giving up is counting dollars for counting stars, meaning he has the idea that dollars will simply be spent (or burnt ;D ) but stars will stay forever. I don't need to list all of the lyrics, but in summary, it is a man/woman pressured to go back to his younger, dumber days, willing to drop his knowledge and reputation for it. This results in his confusion, and his quest to find himself. |
