I think this song is about an alcoholic father that a girl only gets to spend a couple summers with before he dies.. all these crazy dreamy things they did, and her father with his lemonade, an innocent name her dad called his drink if she asked what it was. Her parents died and she lived a harder life with a foster home and its several children just wreaking havoc together as troubled children do.. |

I think this song is about a teenager who is pregnant and her grandmother wants her to have an abortion, or is encouraging her to do so?
"for when my belly speaks"
could maybe be infering when she feels like she has made a descision whether or not to keep her child.
"my hands have wandered" as in she had been promiscuous resulting in her pregnancy, and is looking to her dying grandmother for support when perhaps her family has mentally abandoned her. In a way. I don't know.
Thinking about it more the interpretaton of an abusive grandmother drowning her grand daughter makes more sense, perhaps because she became pregnant? |
