| Culture Club – Karma Chameleon Lyrics | 12 years ago |

My problem with this song is the title. Why is it called "Karma" Chameleon? I understand the "Chameleon" part, as his lover is devoted to him, and then he's not, always changing his colors. But where does the Karma part come in? Is it just a word that sounded cool so he put it in there? The sound of the word fits with the rhythms and the melodies and the delivery he wants to sing, but as far as the actual meaning, I don't really see why it's a part of the song. Sometimes his lover is sweet, sometimes he is wicked....okay....but where does the Karma come in, in this song? Or some implying of it at least. He doesn't say anything about karma, other than singing it in the chorus. I guess if you want to take a stretch, you can say he is saying that if you want to be a chameleon, you are going to have to deal with the karma, good or bad. But there's nothing in the lyrics to support this. He doesn't mention any sort of consequence (good or bad) for the chameleon-like behavior. Well, I guess he does say "Loving would be easy." That would be good karma I guess. But what he's really saying in that line is that if his lover could live by his true colors (instead of being a chameleon), their loving would be easy. Which is common sense, but not really an implication of some form of karma happening. |
