| Passion Pit – Love Is Greed Lyrics | 12 years ago |

Pretty straightforward in my opinion. This song is about how seeking love because you are lonely is selfish and will usually end in disaster. It's about how people rush into relationships because it temporarily fills the void of loneliness in their life, even if the person they fell for is not right for them. Thus the person is confusing loving someone and simply loving the feeling of not being lonely. If you just love the feeling of not being lonely and don't really love the other person the relationship is doomed to fail. You are unknowingly using the other person for your benefit. "We want a love, a love for us" - As humans we want people to love us, it is in our nature. "love has always been a mockery, of those in love and scared to be lonely"- Some people think they love each other but are actually just terrified of the thought of being alone. Thus they stay with the wrong person and trick themselves into thinking they are in love instead of risking loneliness and trying to find a better match. "if all that loneliness requires just another's comfort, Better off being all on your own, cause there's beauty in being alone" -you can fill the void of loneliness in other ways, with great friends or family perhaps. It is better to let the other person go instead of letting them invest in you when you really don't love them. "It's almost taken me but now I see, love is just greed, a selfish little need" basically reiterating the point that love is inherently motivated by selfishness because people want others to love them without giving true love in return. The singer was once blinded by his desire to be loved but eventually realized he did not love the other person as much as they loved him. He didn't love her necessarily, he loved being loved, which is selfish and wrong. "You follow or you lead" this line is referring to how relationships are rarely equal in the sense that both partners have equal dominance in the relationship. One person is almost always dependent on the other (follow). The other is dominant and thus can get away with almost anything without fear of the other person not loving them (lead). If a relationship is unequal, it is impossible for each to love each other equally, usually the dominant one loves the dependent one less. "If we really love ourselves, how do you love somebody else?" this line is pretty self explanatory. True love is wanting the best for someone else, but if we want the best for ourselves, how can we truly love another? "Love is not a veil to hide your voids" You cannot use love to fix your personal problems, when you are in love, you are still you, flaws and all. Also, you cannot hide how you really are to the person you love, your imperfections will always surface eventually. "All this talk of love just turns to noise" This line might be referring to the image of love in pop culture. In our pop culture love is idealized to the point that it creates a false sense of what love really is. The true meaning of love might be lost to this generation. "someday we'll all agree, it's not worth making, another person as just yours for the taking" Someday we will hopefully realize other people are not just for us to use to better ourselves. "A loved one gone is just another story, What's gone sour once was glory, glory" These lines explain how love is always wonderful and glorious at the start of the relationship, but over time the passion wears off and it goes sour. |
