The Killers – Somebody Told Me Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Breakin' my back just to know your name He's trying to figure out who she really is... Seventeen tracks and I've had it with this game 17 "songs" (arguments) have passed and they have still not come to a resolution But heaven ain't close in a place like this This refers to negative religious connotations gayness has, which will become present in the chorus... Anything goes but don't blink, you might miss Since he found out this new piece of information about his partner, he's staying alert for more things she might have hidden from him because he doesn't trust her anymore Bring it back down, bring it back down tonight Never thought I'd let a rumor ruin my moonlight He always thought he'd stay calm and uncaring if a rumor like this rolled around, but he is more shaken by it than he expected he would be and wishes for it to never have happened Well somebody told me you had a boyfriend Who looked like a girlfriend That I had in February of last year It's not confidential, I've got potential He heard that his partner was dating a female ex of his, saying it's not secret anymore and he has solid evidence ("potential") to back it up Ready let's roll onto something new Takin' it's toll then I'm leaving without you He says to himself to leave this girl and move onto a new one, and that the rumor is wreaking havoc with his head and his only choice is to leave her A rushing, rushing around Pace yourself for me I said maybe, baby, please But I just don't know now When all I want to do is try He's confused and doesn't know whether their relationship is worth trying to salvage Honestly he comes off to me as a jerk. A real catch would stay calm, strong, and accepting in the face of rumors. |
Lorde – Tennis Court Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Those who say it's the French Revolution are probably right, but since I know nothing about the French Revolution (haven't covered it in school yet) aside from there being a Tennis Court Oath, I'll take a different perspective. Don't you think that it's boring how people talk Making smart with their words again, well I'm bored Because I'm doing this for the thrill of it, killin' it Never not chasing a million things I want And I am only as young as the minute is full of it Getting pumped up from the little bright things I bought But I know they'll never own me (Yeah) I think this first verse is about being wealthy and famous yet also bored with life from feeling too sheltered, from not having any cares or conflict. So this person turns to whatever adventure comes her way to save herself from boredom. Baby be the class clown I'll be the beauty queen in tears It's a new art form showing people how little we care (Yeah) We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (Yeah) The chorus describes how this person makes the decision to break out of her shell and try to make a difference, choosing to depart from her popular, perfect persona and instead use her fame to send a message to those not as lucky as her. Like a cheesy teen movie. John Hughes, anyone? Pretty soon I'll be getting on my first plane I'll see the veins of my city like they do in space But my head's filling up with the wicked games, up in flames How can I fuck with the fun again, when I'm known And my boys trip me up with their heads again, loving them Everything's cool when we're all in line, for the throne But I know it's not forever (Yeah) She is starting to rethink her decision to do this and realizes all the potential consequences. But eventually she sticks with her original plan, because "it's not forever" (high school is only 4 years) anyway. Getting caught soft with the triple is it I fall apart, with all my heart And you can watch from your window And you can watch from your window Things are starting to go downhill after she abandoned her old popular self, but she doesn't care and invites her enemies to look on. |
Miley Cyrus – We Can't Stop Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This song details every young adult's departure from listening to authority (parents, teachers) and the discovery of true freedom, doing what makes them happy, etc. Of course, since it's Miley, she had to make it all about crazy partying and reference drugs. |
Miley Cyrus – Wrecking Ball Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This is not a hard song to interpret - it's just about the emotional difficulties of a relationship. Specifically, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's relationship. "We jumped, never asking why We kissed, I fell under your spell" - These lines reference the beginning of the relationship, where everything seems wonderful and flawless and perfect the instant you first kiss. She's blind to everything else. However, harder times are coming... "Don’t you ever say I just walked away I will always want you" - She believes she put in effort to salvage the relationship and did not want to lose it, and that she still "wants" her partner. "I came in like a wrecking ball I never hit so hard in love" - She thinks she was a big event in her partner's love life and got him emotionally invested. "All I wanted was to break your walls All you ever did was break me Yeah, you wreck me" - She wanted to break down his emotional barriers but failed to, and feels that he hurt her for trying. "I put you high up in the sky And now, you’re not coming down It slowly turned, you let me burn And now, we’re ashes on the ground" - She adored and looked up to him and has not ceased to even now that it's over. But as their relationship went downhill he made no effort to stop it and let her get hurt. Because of this neither one of them is happy and their happiness has been reduced to ashes. "Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung Left me crouching in a blaze and fall" - This is not proper English which makes it difficult to decipher. Go back to school, MIley. "I never meant to start a war I just wanted you to let me in And instead of using force I guess I should’ve let you in" - By trying to break down his barriers and get him to show vulnerability she caused larger problems than she anticipated and grew frustrated by this. She tried to use force but never actually opened herself up in return, which she realizes she should have. Pretty dull actually. Sounds like every failed relationship to me. |
Awolnation – Not Your Fault Lyrics | 10 years ago |
He is in an unhappy relationship and thinks that none of the blame belongs to his partner, and that he is the one ruining the relationship. (It's not your fault) It doesn't seem that he even sees his partner as a real person, and he probably doesn't really KNOW her - he's in it for the status, the thrill, and the power. He does regret his behavior but does not make any effort to change it. His actions are caused by deep problems of his own that he likes to solve by abusing his partner and therefore giving his problems to her. (I'm a fight with myself Till I'm bleeding. Just a taste of your skin Starts the healing) |
Lorde – Royals Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I believe that the song shows how you don't need to be overly rich and lavish to enjoy yourself, and that the music of today is losing all its substance. "I've never seen a diamond in the flesh I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies And I'm not proud of my address, in the torn up town No post code envy" This verse means that all the riches and pretty things shown on TV and in the movies (like diamonds and fancy rings) are not actually so present in the lives of real people. The last two lines reference the poorer town the singer lives in, not an envied town. "But every song's like gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece. Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair" But, unlike in real life, the media shows everyone as having a ton of money and luxury, and that that is what it means to have a good life. However, Lorde rejects the media's portrayal of life and what it means to have fun, calling it a love affair. "And we'll never be royals It don't run in our blood That kind of luxe just ain't for us We crave a different kind of buzz Let me be your ruler, you can call me Queen Bee And baby I'll rule (I'll rule I'll rule I'll rule) Let me live that fantasy" Lorde is saying that she and her friends will live normal, socioeconomically average lives, and that they look for fun in different forms (Not in a money form). The only line that puzzles me here however is "let me be your ruler you can call me queen bee". "My friends and I we've cracked the code We count our dollars on the train to the party And everyone who knows us knows that we're fine with this We didn't come from money" Her friends know how much they have and are satisfied with it "We're bigger than we ever dreamed, and I'm in love with being queen Life is great without a care We aren't caught up in your love affair" Lorde has become popular and richer, perhaps from the song; however, she has not forgotten her original feelings and chooses to spend her money and time wisely, and not on luxury |
Awolnation – Sail Lyrics | 10 years ago |
First, it should be noted that these lyrics are inaccurate. He does not only sing "sail" at the end, but also "sail with me into the dark" Second, I think many of you are taking this song at face value. I think that the song actually has a lot of heroin references in it... "A.D.D." (Alcohol Drug Dependency) "This is how an angel dies" "Maybe I should cry for help, maybe I should kill myself" "Sail with me into the dark" It's far too dark a song to only be about ADD, and the video also suggests some heroin usage |
