| Amorphis – The Bee Lyrics | 3 years ago |

This song is about the fragility and mortality of human civilizations. It tells ironically how the smallest and most humble beings like bees will outlive even the greatest human empires. The kingdoms will fall, castles will crumble and eventually even the mightiest of kings will be but a pile of bones. And maybe one day a swarm of bees will come and his royal skull will have the honour of providing a place for their nest. |

I think that the song tells about God through various metaphors. Probably not so much about the God of christianity, but the concept of God as a force that drives everything. The protagonist feels he sees through the chaos of the world ("I'll remain unperturbed by the joy and the madness That I encounter everywhere I turn") the true force behing everything "the generator" ("I've known it all along, like a bone under my skin"). That force is everywhere around us, still and unnoticable to the most "like the hummingbird in silence" while powering and driving everything "like turbines in darkness". People are just weak-willed marionettes in this great play like "actors in the photograph" or "a paper in the wind". The central line of the song is "blood on my door", which refers to the old testament. in the book of Exodus Moses told the Israelites to mark their doors with lambs blood so the "angel of death" (the 10th plague of Egypt that would kill all the firstborn sons) would know that they are the followers of the true God and pass their house. Therefore the "blood on the door" is a metaphor for a true believer and this is how the protagonist sees himself. The God in the song is not mainly benevolent or malevolent, but mostly a blind force without any great plan. It generates beauty ("flower behind the window"), random things ("ugly laughing man") and destruction ("hammer by the window", "knife on the floor") alike. Maybe the protagonist feels that seeing the truth will protect him from the latest like the blood on the door protected the Israelites from the wrath of the old testaments god. |

| Skunk Anansie – Charlie Big Potato Lyrics | 12 years ago |

The song is about incest between brother and sister (the protagonist). Brother is propably older and has used his power over his sister, to abuse the girl in their home ("a lone brother, a lone sister, a home cover.") The girl is awake while the brother is sleeping. She is feeling ashamed and bitterly thinking that now that her borther has "seduced" her ("broke the hard girl, good to please") he probably sees himself as "Charlie Big Potato" (slang term, meaning "the man" or "the big shot" or more literally "the one with the bigest balls around") |
