This is one of the purest, simplest and striking songs I've ever heard. Her voice really shines here, and the agony and ecstasy of young love are perfectly described. I know it's a cover, so I will have to hunt up the original. |

The sound here reminds me so strongly of Darren Hayes' work, particularly This Delicate Thing We've Made |

This is a fantastically reasoned analysis, and even though I don't necessarily agree with it to the letter, I cannot argue with your conclusions based on the material. Well done, and I am am stunned this doesn't have more notes. |

I rather think it could - the 'loaded gun' in this case is the inhabited womb, as it were. He 'loaded the chamber' as it were, her womb with his sperm (the bullets in this case). They're giving the weapon away loaded - it is ready to fire, to become a child, but they won't let it get to that stage, instead, 'giving it away,' i.e., the abortion.
This has always been my interepretation of this song - about deciding on an abortion. It reminds me of Hemingway's Hills Like White Elephants, which follows the same theme, down to the 'is this all right with you?' idea. |
