| Bon Iver – I Can't Make You Love Me/Nick of Time Lyrics

Kills me every time I hear it, and sadly this is exactly how I'm feeling right now so I can totally relate to the lyrics. Sometimes love just isn't enough when the other person's feelings have faded. The worst part is dealing with your own thoughts and emotions, wondering if you could have done more to make them stay. |

I have just stumbled across this song on youtube and it is the saddest thing i've ever heard. I have just come out of a relationship with someone I love more than anything, but somewhere along the way we drifted apart and the little things like being kissed in a certain way stopped and it hurt me more than I've been able to express. Until hearing this song, it sums it up perfectly that two people can love each other but when the communication breaks down something fundamental is lost. |

I heard this song on the radio the other day and it reminded me how much I loved it when it first came out. In my opinion, it's not about someone who is cheating or who is still in love with an ex. It's about him being in love with someone who is emotionally unavailable, someone who never fully let him in, someone who always expected too much of him and was never content with the love he gave, they always wanted more and it has drained him of his love for her. It seems like the relationship started off as 'perfect' but has become something else and a darker side of her has emerged ('shouting out is all you know') and he can't keep fighting to make the relationship work when every time he does she finds something else to be unhappy about. A beautiful but tragic song about people that don't know when they've got a good thing going on. |

I read somewhere that this song was written about his great-grandfather, who placed a bet on a horse. It won and his great-grandfather was able to afford to marry his great-grandmother. Whether this is true or not I don't know, but it seems to fit the lyrics nicely, with regard to hands being a measure of height in horses and the line 'money made on good luck'. This is one of my all time favourite songs, I think the lyrics are beautiful and tell a wonderful little story of two people's love for each other. |

I adore this song. To me, it's about a girl from a broken home who has spent her life taking care of others and never being cared for but doing it all graciously. Until the singer comes into her life and says she doesn't need to worry anymore because he will be there waiting for her. I love it when he sings 'I'll be on the 5.45, you can meet me at the railway line' because you can picture them so clearly and there are few better feelings than the anticipation of waiting for a loved one to arrive. |

To me it seems to be about a man who was perfectly happy by himself until he fell in love. However, when that great love ends he cannot understand why when he feels he has loved her in the best way possible, how could she want more? He questions how she could see him suffer but still leave him anyway - 'did you see me bleeding out?'. |

I always thought it was maybe I'm wasting my young years.. rather than baby. Anyway, the song seems to be about spending a significant proportion of your youth in a relationship that's either failed or is failing, and the accompanying feeling of having wasted time and the confusion of thinking you weren't good enough - 'I don't know what you want'. |

To me it's about spending your life surrounded by the ones you love. Your partner, your friends and your family. Instead of looking to religion he puts his faith in those who support him. |

| A Great Big World – Say Something Lyrics

When I listen to this song it makes me think of a relationship situation where one person (the singer) knows the relationship isn't working and that they should end things, but all they really want is for the other person to 'say something' so they can convince themselves there's still something to fight for. |

To me it's about wanting to start afresh in a relationship. To forget whatever has troubled them in the past and start from the beginning. |

Sadly I can relate very closely to this. It's about a girl who has some serious issues that initially were fixed by the boy, but have reared their ugly head as the relationship has progressed, to the degree where it has pushed them as a couple to breaking point. She hasn't allowed herself to trust in his love and it has led them to questioning whether or not they can fix things as he tells her it's all in her mind. Neither person really wants to end the relationship and they both just need the other one to give them a reason to stay together and 'learn to love again'. |
