I adore this song. It's a bit more predictable than her usual style, but that just makes it easier to get into, for me. I love the transition from timildly admitting, "You cry a little.... so do I.", to her saying more earnestly "But if you give a little, so will I." I've been here before, seeing someone so beautiful beneath the surface in a defensive shell. I like the meaning behind this song, like gently coaxing a frightened animal into the open. You don't have to let me in, dear. But I'd love it if you did. I know that you're hiding. And I'll be right here until you need me. |

I love this. Which is no surprise, as I love most (all) of FaTM. But I've been a bit nervous that album 3 wouldn't quite compare to Lungs and Ceremonials. So far, I'm not disappointed. I'm most impressed (besides that epic guitar and her throaty shout) by her talent at rhyming. The rhymes are natural, but not cliche, original, but not forced. "You do such damage, How do you manage To have me crawling back for more?" It's a pleasant rhythm, and written well. Like the beginning of Never Let Me Go. "Looking up from underneath, Fractured moonlight on the sea Reflections still look the same to me As before I went under And it's peaceful in the deep Cathedral where you cannot breathe No need to pray, no need to speak Now I am under." Lovely and not awkward. Makes you wonder "Why didn't I write that first?" And I get the same feeling from this new single! Looking forward to How Big How Blue How Beautiful. |

Aww... there are so many good metaphorical meanings here, and they all make sense! It's just... I rather enjoy taking this song sort of literally. The imagery it describes is so completely beautiful, I don't want to find a 'real' meaning. I just enjoy taking it in on the surface, like the music video. Florence standing in a forest deep in midnight colors, peering up into the sky. The glowing 'star' falls slowly and settles into her eye, and her hands fly up to her face. She screams soundlessly, and is temporarily immobile on the ground, the star still glowing deep within her and her eyes flashing. The video involved her searching through the midnight forest, and eventually peering back up inro the sky and breathlessly delivering the little star back home. I'm sure there's a metaphorical meaning, but this picture is so beautiful, I don't want to look any deeper. |

| Florence + the Machine – All This and Heaven Too Lyrics | 12 years ago |

" But with all me education I can't seem to command it And the words are all escaping And coming back all damaged And I would put them back in poetry If I only knew how I can't seem to understand it..." For some reason this makes me think of Wicked. I see Elfie glaring into the Grimmerie, chanting and dancing, determined to master a new spell. But it's a difficult one, and though her hands weave skillfully through the greenish mists rising from the pages, and her black skirt twirls about her feet as she spins, it's a losing battle. The words gain control, and the spell proves too much for her. Though she put her best efforts into it, she collapses on the floor panting and the mists sink back into the faded pages. |

| Florence + the Machine – Hurricane Drunk Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| God, this song gives me chills. All of her songs are so rich with meanings, with implied realities and beautiful words. This song is just about being so depressed , it literally can't get any worse. It's a relief, really, knowing you've hit rock bottom. I've experienced it, an elation, a high like nothing else, knowing that nothing can possibly hurt any worse. You feel invincible. The song is so right- it goes from a storm of emotions flooding and threatening to kill you, then you're swept up by the power of them, and the pain dulls to a glorious invulnerability. You belong to the hurricane. | |

Love Florence, especially this song. I interpret it as domestic violence, but not in an entirely negative light. It's always sounded nonchalant to me, like she's saying, "Yeah he punched me. I punched him harder. So what? At the end of the day we're still happy. We may scream at each other, but at least we're talking!" It's like they both hurt the other but both are pretty okay with it. And Florence looks super messy and adorable in this video! |
