I have liked this song for a long time now, and spent a lot of time thinking about it. I believe the "You" is himself. For instance, in the beginning, he says "counting the ways to where you are". I believe he's saying that when he was 15 he just wanted to grow up and to be an adult. As he goes through the years of his life he's trying to tell himself back then, 'C'mon! Go live your life! Stay childish! Being an adult is not all its cracked up to be.' And I think at the end, he's telling all the 15 year olds the same thing- if you try to grow up you'll regret it, just like he did. |
