Weezer – Hash Pipe Lyrics 8 years ago
Wow, what a group. You've got plenty of haters, angry people, people saying they're 'huge fans' yet giving the 'true meaning' based upon incorrect lyrics. I just like the song and wanted to read people's interpretations for a laugh and as usual; I wasn't disappointed.

Overall, not bad though.

Cake – Short Skirt/Long Jacket Lyrics 8 years ago
@[MetalliCatMan:18543] it's likely short for MGB ... the tiny British Sport Car. It pretty much fits the song as well because she's making choices which will change how people perceive her, but underneath it all my friend? There's still that hot short skirt!

R.E.M. – Perfect Circle Lyrics 9 years ago
Unlike most of my posts; fact-based and directly from the mouth of the artists. I'm just going say how the song ALWAYS makes me feel.

Regardless of the intricacies and riddles woven throughout the lyrics, this song never fails to remind me both of a time in my life and the girl who shared that time (seven years) with me.

We both worked very hard at University and carried on jobs at the same time, when we got a chance we tried to get together and enjoy a nice dinner and finish the evening either with our mutual friends at a bar with live music or dancing at a club.

We always dressed appropriately for these occasions and I would usually finish getting ready first.

During this time I'd just sit back quietly and watch as she did last-minute touchups or whatever girls do when you're going out someplace special and they're dressed to kill. It's these moments which come to mind immediately when I hear the song; just sitting quietly, admiring how gorgeous she is. She looked especially beautiful to me while applying a little makeup, doing her hair, putting on earrings and other jewelry. It was just a peaceful quiet time, with very little talking but a lot of thoughts going through my mind.

I'd be thinking about the two of us as a couple and where were we headed after college; marriage, kids, buying a house, would we get hired and have a path to jobs we wanted and had been working very hard toward for many years.

I guess the biggest question or thought that was going through my mind during that time was; would we last? Were we going to do share our lives together?

The answer turned out to be no as she followed her career to the West Coast while I stayed on the East Coast where I had started to and have now been established in business for many, many years now.

The thoughts associated with the song are not about the one that got away or regretful, if anything the opposite is true. Because when I remember, I smile looking back at the time and the hopes and dreams of two kids. And that's what we were - I clearly see that now because I've lived a longer while also surviving and thriving.

That's more than enough from me ... thanks for letting me share my memory.

Sarah McLachlan – Adia Lyrics 9 years ago
@[allanjim3:17182] Generally vague about the specific meaning, McLachlan did admit in an interview that one of several inspirations behind this song is her relationship with her best friend. Their relationship was rocky for a period of time after Sarah started seeing her current husband, who her best friend had dated in the past.

Sarah McLachlan – Adia Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is about entering a relationship and falling in love with a man with whom one of your best friends once had a relationship.

One of Sarah's best friends had once dated a man and after the break-up she falsely expressed to Sarah she was completely over him - everything was done. The truth being she still had unresolved feelings for him and thought of him as her own.

Knowing none of the true feelings her friend still harbored, Sarah then enters a relationship with the same man, eventually falling in love with one another. This series of events and misunderstanding caused her longtime friend (Adia) to feel Sarah had betrayed her and break off their friendship.

Much to Sarah's dismay, there had been no reconciliation with this friend at the time this song was written. You can read the quote below which tells of Sarah and her man moving on with their life and realizing they were only responsible for her own happiness - Sarah (like all of us) cannot control, change or be responsible for the feelings others have toward us or a situation.

The best we can do is tell our side of the story and hope that others understand or feel we were good people who weren't out to intentionally harm someone else.

Sarah tried to make amends and repair the relationship but she can't change somebody's set mind for them. So in the end she has to move on ... although it breaks her heart, she 'leaves her with her misery - a friend who won't betray'.

"I'm not quite sure how to explain this one but, uh, I guess more than anything it's about my problems in dealing with feeling responsible for everyone else". - Sarah

@[cowboystain:17181] you are an unbelievably ignorant moron. The fingering they referred to in the lyrics stands for pointing the finger at somebody. You have no idea what you're talking about and I can guarantee you do not know Sarah at all judging just by how poorly even interpreted the song. You can read the actual song meaning if you'd like as I will post it for you. Goodbye moron

Black Tide – That Fire Lyrics 9 years ago
Before I touch on "That Fire" itself, I just want to say I think Black Tide were given some poor management or direction when the LP 'Post Mortem' was released in 2011. They obviously had raw energy to spare and talent beyond their years. But that just wasn't enough and at age 18 they're being told they 'lack polish'?! WTF? Of course you're lacking polish at age 18 - that's completely natural and shouldn't be considered a 'fault'.

Ok, as for the the song itself; I think this track is HIGHLY underrated and I can happily say;
'There's no mystery here; it's about being a young dude with a "real Girlfriend". You tell her you really love her and she thinks you're 'that FIRE'!

However, despite all of this sweet-stuff you don't even want to think about giving up your chicks on the side.

'You made your bed ... now lie in it'!!

I heard it while growing up and bet the guys did too. So we're all 'making our beds' through our daily actions and one day we'll lie in it ... will you be laying in a bed of flames for your actions?

I think the fellas are simply doing what they do best ... they help us to become aware so we can take steps to do the next right (not evil) thing.

Boston – More Than A Feeling Lyrics 9 years ago
Tom Scholz was the MIT graduate who 'invented' the unique 'Boston Guitar Sound'. Actually, he still owns a company which manufactures Amplifiers specially designed to reproduce that effect.

Most of the guitar, bass, and keyboards for the debut album were performed and recorded by Tom Scholz in the basement of his home. Other players were involved sporadically throughout the recordings, but the bulk of the music was Tom's.

Once the album was given the green light by Epic, Tom was all over it. He worked as an Engineer for Kodak during the day, but his nights were all about music.

Epic Records did not want the album recorded entirely in Scholz's home as Scholz had intended (the label suggested using a recording studio), but the fact remains; most of what ended up on Boston's debut album was indeed ultimately recorded by Scholz in his basement.

I love the fact that by recording in his basement, Tom was basically telling Epic Records; 'you've signed us to make music - so get off my back and let us make our music'!

He obviously knew what he was doing because when the album was released in 1976 it became the biggest-selling debut album by any artist up to that time! And THAT is a FACT!!

Nickelback – Figured You Out Lyrics 12 years ago
I remember listening to a radio interview with the band and their talking about this song sticks with me clearly because I thought it was about an junkie ex-GF. The interview was given by a DJ who (back then) was clean and sober for years. He told the band he liked this song because; 'even though years had passed - he was still an addict' and it 'reminded him where drugs took him.' The guys said, 'it's amazing that everyone assumes it's about a girl - except people who have hit bottom.' The song's exactly what you said; 'addiction starts like love, but ends with divorce or death. But you figured it out man - you get it.'
