| I personally see it as a song about infidelity. The speaker cannot be selfless, as they are selfish. This translates to acting on impulse only for your own gain. As his girlfriend gives it his all, he still wants more aside from her. More lovers. He can't stay faithful. | |

There are a lot of comments on this, so I'm not sure if this has been said before. I feel that this song may be about the Cold War. Ice age coming can refer to a nuclear winter that may be upon us by using WMDs. This also plays into the use of bunkers and their significance. A weaker interpretation of "laugh until my head comes off" could reference the speaker as a soldier at war who is in danger, as many men are. That, or the speaker is being tortured, hence the swallowing. This could either reference something like being forced to swallow something lethal, or swallow torture (hanging head first with legs and arms tied behind the back). "Let me hear both sides" can refer to needing to know both the sides of the USSR and America during the Cold War to try and figure out who is in the wrong. Then there's "this is really happening" where the threat of the Cold War finally dawns on the speaker. |
