| Leonard Cohen – Diamonds in the Mine Lyrics

@[jebso:13570] Leonard Cohen is brilliant. Notice also how he changes it to "your vine" and "your boxes" - nailing each of us personally. He ends by yelling the pain and frustration - very appropriate to the theme. He's done it before. At then end of "One of Us Cannot Be Wrong" he sings "la da da da..." (the haunting melody) louder and louder, getting rough and off-key, screaming as he fades out. Like a man who tried to drown the pain with booze now leaving the stage. It's my favorite Cohen song. |

Wow, yes. It's twelve years since you shared your thoughts. God bless you. I hope you moved on and found a truer love. The song is just as powerful now as it was when it came out. |

"The best thing we can do about loss of love is find ourselves through it." That's Pat Monahan's explanation of his dream song, and we know his lost love was his mother. But the song is universal; we all share the voyage of discovery that is life on earth. Most of us have loved and lost and had to learn the strength and inspiration to go on, to find our true selves through the triumphs and defeats of living. "Drops of Jupiter" is such a beautiful, insightful song - one where the answer is a question. |

My reply to you ended up in general comments, so I'll ask again. How can you say you wrote the lyrics? This is Gerry Rafferty's song and it relates to his life. Is it about dealing drugs? I don't think so. |

How can you say you wrote the lyrics? This is Gerry Rafferty's song and it clearly relates to his life. To my mind, this has nothing to do with dealing drugs, although drugs can make you "light on your head and dead on your feet." This is more about coming to the realization that it's possible to change your life by changing your attitudes. |

Couldn't miss the symbolic sexuality - who'd want to? - it's marvelous! Multiple comments opened my eyes to other connections to PG's musical career. Great! Can't we have it both ways? As Led Zeppelin notes, "Sometimes words have two meanings..." And songwriters are masters of the double entendre. Hurray for Sledgehammer - delightful song! |
