Mesh – Just Leave Us Alone Lyrics 12 years ago
I may be off, but it seems to fit both in content and the timing, at least here in the states, that this could be related to legalizing same sex marriage, or at least acceptance of same sex couples.

"Never thought that I'd stand next to you, waiting for the threats to follow through." - Almost makes me think of the sit-ins conducted for civil rights. Standing with someone that many in society say you can't stand with, ready to suffer the attacks in order to show the world that you are willing to endure anything for what you believe is right.

"Hold me tighter until the load gets lighter, until the world is safer tearing friends from paper" - Pretty clear...their love isn't safe out in the open. The last part was a bit of a stretch, but I think that "tearing friends from paper" is a reference to what many craft workers call their work. Their work is lonely, but doing their craft brings them joy. In this way, their creations are their friends. In context, I think the phrase just says "Until we are safe just doing what makes us happy."

"And we'll both move forward with our lips less awkward, and our hands stop shaking with the risk we're taking" - He's dreaming of the day that their way of life will be accepted, where they can say their "I love you"'s freely in public, where they don't have to be afraid because simply being together runs risk of attack, either physical or verbal.

The rest is very clear. Just leave us alone, we have something special, and there's nothing you can do to tear us apart. Again, this is possibly just my interpretation due to the current events. My state just passed the bill, and even today, there is a "Catholic Exorcism" taking place at the local cathedral in a few hours to "banish" the gay out of the world. I'm straight, but I can't understand how people can be so hell-bent on forcing others to do as they do.

Just.....leave....them....alone.....
