It doesn't sound "a bit" like that, that's exactly what it is. Nothing about rape or terrorists. He's longing for that woman but he knows they'll never get in touch. She is out of reach for him, unfulfilled love. Fire and Water. It's all metaphoric, like in most songs of Rammstein. He's not really swimming behind her. It's just a metaphor to describe his feelings. |

"He grew up without a family who accepted or was proud of who he is. "My son" implies its his parents who are speaking or at least some figure of authority or paternity in his life." I do not agree. I think it is not any specific person who is singing that song, it has nothing to do with 'parents'. It's no real person who is talking to that 'son' and that 'son' is just everyone of us. The song is very cynical, like 'You used to have dreams? Now that's over, welcome to the machine, son.' "This is about him choosing his own path, being rejected for it, and then suddenly finding acceptance when he has all the superficial things, like money, fame, jaguars, etc." Again I disagree. He didn't reach anything. He just dreamt of becoming one of those heroes of films, stars, or anything else that you think you will be when you grow up. "You dreamed of a big star, He played a mean guitar, He always ate in the Steak Bar. He loved to drive in his Jaguar." is just an example for dreams you have when you are young, provided by what you see everywhere around you, films, commercial, influence of others on you, and so on. ""Welcome to the machine" translates to "we accept you now because you're famous"" He is not famous, he is a nobody like everyone is and now he will join the machine like everyone else. |

To me it's simply about growing up. You used to live a careless life with many dreams and wishes. But then one day you wake up and need to face reality. Your dreams and wishes won't come true. You will never do anything great or important. You are nothing but a cog to keep everything going. Welcome to the machine. |

"Conversion, software version 7.0 Looking at life through the eyes of a tired hub Eating seeds as a pastime activity " I always saw this last line just as another comparison between human and machine. I thought of torrent seeds. This could mean media or people who tell you what to think, all that influences you all the time. These seeds are the toxicity. Just my thoughts. |
