Soundgarden – The Day I Tried to Live Lyrics 5 years ago
It's about trying to step out of being patterned and closed off and reclusive, which I've always had a problem with. It's about attempting to be normal and just go out and be around other people and hang out. I have a tendency to sometimes be pretty closed off and not see people for long periods of time and not call anyone. It's actually, in a way, a hopeful song. Especially the lines "One more time around/Might do it", which is basically saying, 'I tried today to understand and belong and get along with other people, and I failed, but I'll probably try again tomorrow.' A lot of people misinterpreted that song as a suicide-note song. Taking the word "live" too literally. "The Day I Tried to Live" means more like the day I actually tried to open up myself and experience everything that's going on around me as opposed to blowing it all off and hiding in a cave.

Also:

“The attitude I was trying to convey was that thing that I think everyone goes through where you wake up in the morning and you just don't know how you are going to get through the day, and you kind of just talk yourself into it. You may go through different moments of hopelessness and wanting to give up, or wanting to just get back into bed and say f--k it, but you convince yourself you're going to do it again. And maybe this is the last time you're going to do it, but it's once more around." -Chris Cornell

Tool – Jimmy Lyrics 12 years ago
These songs may be open to interpretation, but this is the closest to the CORRECT interpretation I've yet seen here. It's all well and good that as many people as possible relate with an artist's songs in whatever way(s) they see fit, but trust me; the artists do have something specific in mind when they write these songs.

Audioslave – I Am the Highway Lyrics 12 years ago
I believe this song is about Chris Cornell addressing all of his imitators, telling them, "I set out to be an original, and spawned a plethora of copycats. I want to be as far removed from these types as possible, and regarded as the original, groundbreaking artist that I am."

In the wake of the '90s Seattle rock explosion, a lot of frontmen copped his look, vocal style, etc. (Eddie Vedder went through the same thing with the Creeds, etc.). This directly led to him cutting off his hair before the Superunknown album. He watched in horror as thousands of wanna-be, grunge-bandwagon musicians moved to Seattle and ruined his once-cherished one-of-a-kind music scene. The lyrics absolutely fit this idea, in my opinion.
