He's so in love with her that even after she confesses to being unfaithful he wants to try and work through this and be with her. But then it sinks into him just how much she hurt him, and he know he knows that he can't let that go. She is begging for him to love her again, but things will never be the same and even though he loves her he can't get over this. He can't stop thinking of her with another man who isn't him. He knows he loves her and she loves him ("for heaven's sake I know your sorry") but it doesn't make a difference, his heart is "in shattered pieces that can never be replaced". He straight up says "I can't forgive you". When he sings "So sleep alone tonight" he wants her to really understand WHY he can't get over what she did, and hurt the way she hurt him because he can't take how saddened she is over this ("When this is over don't blow your composure baby"). He loves her, but he can't be with her anymore. ("I know you want me to want you I want to"). |

Now that the relationship is over he literally destroyed- she was his everything, and now he doesn't know how to feel ("never happy like we were happy, never sad like we were sad"). He didn't know what to do anymore, or how they got to that point, because he did everything he could for her but she just couldn't see how much he loved for her and all the efforts he put into their relationship ("I've lost more than you'l, ever see"- she feels like shes hurting but she doesn't see how much he meant to her). |

This song is coming out of guilt, but I don't think he purpsely tried to lead her on- he didn't want her to make things easy for him to just use her, he wants her to "mean" that she is okay with just a one nigh stand and nothing more. But she clearly cared about him even though he didn't have feelings for her, and even though he KNEW she cared about him he just convinced himself that what he was doing was okay ("Tell my voice what it takes to speak up, speak up And keep my conscience clean when I wake" And while he was okay with things when they were happening, now he's looking back and realizing how horrible he was, and he WANTS her to HATE him for what he did to her because they were both lying to themselves the entire time (she tried to make it seem like she didn't care and was okay with it, and he tried to convince himself she actually was okay with it despite knowing it meant so much more to her). So this song is showing that guilt and not exactly an apology, but an attempt at giving her the ability to move on from him. |

"In seven years only one goodbye that meant much to me" This isn't about a relationship he just got out of, a lot of time has elapsed, yet she was still the only breakup he couldn't get over. After they broke up she moved on much faster, but now even though they've both moved on and she's with someone else (you're still sleeping in someone else's bed) she's either apologizing or trying to get back in his life somehow, which is sending him mixed signals ("heaven or hell cause I can't tell") And even though he's angry at how things ended and they way she's playing with his heart, she's still his everything and means so much to him (you'll be my angel through it all). But in the end he knows that they can never be together again after all the games and everything she put him through ("how does it feel when you're all alone, I won't answer when you call). YET neither of them ever want to lose eachother completely form their lives- and I guess the overall feeling I get from this song is that while they aren't together, they will always have a piece of each other because at one point they were eachother's worlds. |

| I deffinitly believe this is about a first love- except the feeling isn't mutual because he would do anything for this girl (walk on fire just to be next to you), and she completely takes this for granted. He's looking back on it, and he realizes that "(we) were young and we were dumb", but he still feels bad he let himself get so hung up on someone who didn't really give a damn and this song is like an apology to himself from himself about letting his heart get played with. | |
