The song seems to be about masqurading as something that you are not and living off of a reputation when on the inside you are really being eaten away. Bad luck or mistakes kill you and harm you but you manage to keep up your appearence until your appearence is all you have left and it is fragile. "Can't afford to lose my head. Can't afford to lose my cool. You'll blow them all in king dumbcum. Can't afford to lose my tease, I just aim to please." Saying that if he slips up or steps out of "character" then he crumbles and everyone sees what he is inside, so he silently bends to the wills of others to keep himself afloat. "Trouble's a mangy stray dog, Play with it once, then it follows you home. It's all "have nots, Have nones, Hey can I have some's?" Until I've had enough Yet I've had none. Oh, Take off your mask, Lose It into the trash Go on Und give it a try Or kiss Your ass goodbye." And then here in the chorus is says that he has become this hollow being that he is now because "trouble follows you home" and then all of his lies and deceptions pile on top of each other and multiply. So it tells him to take off his mask and show who he really is. It tells him to end the lies and the false images. And then here is probably the most beautiful part of the song in the very end. "I know it hurts. It hurts to be young. Metamorphosis is pain, I know. I said it hurts to be young. Gotta learn every goddamn thing. You gotta hack your way through, And realize, it's almost entirely lies. But then you'll begin to smile. Smile for me, real. Wide. Then you accept what you are. The transforming is done. It says that it will be difficult once he takes off his mask and he'll be struck down and it will kick his ass, but then he'll be free and he'll be himself again which will cause him to truly be happy and smile. |

| Although the meaning of the song is simple and easy to understand, they deliver it so beutifully and flawlessly. I don't think I can add anything new to what has been said by stating that the song describes the current human condition and follows up on the statement, "Ignorance is bliss" by saying that when you don't care about the truth, you have nothing and become a despot. of sorts. "Ignorance is bliss UNTIL they take your bliss away." and when that is gone then you have nothing to hold onto | |

He is speaking about cheating and lying on someone and how he knows he is like that and that his parter shouldn't expect anything more from him. Later in the song though, he is filled with regret and wants to settle down and hang onto someone, but his past makes it difficult for him because no one wants to be with someone like him.
