Do you have to be a mime to know a song is written by a mime and about miming? A remedy/ In a bloody sea/ To breach the hive/ And smoke the bees/ You could be my friend/You could be my dog/ You could be my life/ You could be my fog/ Addiction- specifically heroin- the remedy is available at a price- it's in a bloody sea- with defenses to be broken down before you can have the relief you seek. Heroin becomes your friend, lover, and life. Dog is a slang for heroin and fog is the blissful state of apathy that covers your feelings- that makes waking up every day easier. Fog is the disconnection between the missing link you feel when flooding your brain with so much dopamine that you forget your emptiness, the past/the future, you can't see anything a foot in front of you. |

| Does the artists personal meaning when they wrote the song really matter? What makes art great is that it can be interpreted by 1000 people in 1000 different ways- that it can speak to them and give them the words they don't have to articulate the way they are feeling. For me, an ex-heroin addict who has been off methadone for 2 months this song is quite specific. My bones are constantly aching- every part of my body wants to run away from the situation I put it in. He uses imagery of burning and of heat to describe something similar to the feeling of drowning. To sleep, oh to sleep. To go home, to feel the little deaths of pleasure, to feel the big pleasure of nothingness. | |

"How could you fake it when the cage, it calls?" This line specifically speaks to me. I wonder what he meant by it. I take everything and relate it to my experiences and my life, even if it is obvious that the meaning I take wasn't the intended meaning. Methadone. Recovery. Faking a happy life= "How could you fake it" Heroin. Apathetic bliss. Choosing your prison= "The cage, It calls" |
