I think this is about having how you can have expectations about how a relationship should be, and then when you get in a relationship you realize he’s not what you thought he would be. You wonder if you’re too idealistic about love and tell yourself “it’s better than I even knew” because you love him. But he’s not as invested in the relationship as you, not trying as hard, or just has different interests and ways of showing love, and it feels like you’re doing all the work trying to make it your dream relationship. Video games could mean he’s playing mind games with her or is literally addicted to video games and ignores her. Either way she feels like the relationship is unbalanced where she’s putting in more effort.

Sounds to me like her parents’ relationship didn’t work out. They got divorced, separated, or just faught a lot. Maybe one of them cheated on the other. Maybe one of them died, too. Either way she is traumatized by it. Also sounds like she is in love with someone and doesn’t want to make the same mistakes her parents did. She’s letting her boyfriend know that she won’t give up on their relationship. Seeing her parents’ marriage fail motivated her to stay with her boyfriend through thick and thin. Seems like she points out, too how nowadays you can quickly find someone new on a dating site, cheat, hook up, and forget your old lover. So she thinks the modern dating world is to blame, not just her parents. And she doesnt want to live that kind of lifestyle but wants true love.

I think this song is about trusting yourself. He used to rely on other things.. religion, authority, people, etc. but realizes that he was driven by fear. Fear of going to hell, fear of what other people think... So now he’s saying “when I drive myself my light is found.” And he’s learning to trust himself to live his life like how he trusts himself when he drives a car. “Would you choose water over wine, hold the wheel and drive.” You drive better if you’re sober. I don’t know but maybe he had alcohol problems and is trying to stay sober for himself instead of for religious reasons. “Whatever tomorrow brings I’ll be there.” He’s gonna he there for himself no matter what happens. Even if there is no god or religion to lean on he will have himself and he is embracing the unknown.

This song is about a guy who really wants to stay with his girlfriend but she is thinking of breaking up with him or already has. "I dream of lives we could have had before, but the heat has broke down open doorways, friends of yours will tell me more what happens in your mind" He talks to her friends and finds out she has doubts about their relationship. They have drifted so far apart that he has to talk to them to know what's going on with her. "A footnote in your dance of days, in my mind that record still plays, still wonder what fuck it says, hoping there is time" He thinks back to all the hints she has dropped him over the years about the things he needs to change. He's still not sure what he needs to fix, but he hopes she will stay long enough for him to figure that out. "Can we try and take the high road though we don't know where it ends" He wants to take the high road in their relationship and stay together though they aren't sure how their lives will end up. He wants her to take a chance with him. "I want to be your crystal baller, I want to show you how it ends" A crystal baller is a fortune teller. He wants to show her that the future will be good if they stay together. "Can we talk about tomorrow and the promise that it brings, I want to be your crystal baller, I want to show you everything" He keeps telling her things will get better someday and puts everything off until tomorrow. But now he sees that she is getting sick of waiting for him to change and realizes he needs to take action now before she is gone. "I wonder where we're all going, I'm homesick for your primal knowing, I wonder why the wind keeps blowing you through my mind" He doesn't know what is going to happen to them and is longing for reassurance. He can't stop thinking about her. "I want to be your crystal baller, I want to be your diamond ring... the one I never gave you, and the promise that it brings, let me be your crystal baller, I will show you everything" He knows he didn't do enough to make her want to stay with him. He regrets not making her more of a priority and wants to show her that things will be different this time around.
