Blur – Under the Westway Lyrics 12 years ago
Also, the line "putting adverts inside my dreams" reminds me—and I'm not sure if this quote was related to blur, but it certainly fits here—of something I heard a while back. This famous person, I forget who, was being interviewed and he was going on about how advertisements are everywhere. The interviewer asked something like "Where do you go if you want to avoid adverts? Is anywhere safe?" And the man said "yeah, you go to sleep," and that's pretty much it.

I like the way this song is so open to interpretation. Like the line "the distance between us when we communicate". Is he talking about texting and phone calls, how nothing is ever personal anymore? Is he talking about a relationship, how he feels so distant? Or maybe something entirely different? I think that's the power in Damon's vocals; they can mean something different to everyone, and it's all meaningful.

I must say, one of my all-time favorites. A pity it's not more well-known.

Beck – The Horrible Fanfare/Landslide/Exoskeleton Lyrics 12 years ago
I may be off on this, but the title reminds me a bit of Hunter S. Thompson. In my CD version, it uses commas instead of slashes, (The Horrible Fanfare, Landslide, Exoskeleton) and this is oddly similar to the way HST titled the chapters in Fear and Loathing. He would just use a few words to describe the topics of his chapters. Also the use of "Horrible" in a similar way; it's not describing something as necessarily bad, but it makes you FEEL bad, like you have a hard time coping with it. It's uneasy, it's heavy, it's horrible.
