Ron Pope – A Drop In The Ocean Lyrics 12 years ago
Well I guess I have a totally different take. And it seems to make more sense than the other ones. I want to start with the first verse. I think it's like the last night they're going to be together. The whole song implies that there is literal distance between them. He doesn't want to waste the last weekend he has with her. And he doesn't even care if she doesn't love him as much as he loves her because in that moment he just wants to be with her. It's too late to cry because there's nothing he can do about it anymore. He has to move on, but right now he's just too broken to. Then the chorus. A drop in the ocean and change in the weather signifies the chance that fate could change. A drop in the ocean creates a ripple effect. It could also be that the change in the weather was what tore them apart. He was praying that they could end up together, but he knows the chances are so slim, but he can't totally give up hope. He's holding her closer in his heart and not letting her go like he let go of his past relationships when they ended. Because she is his heaven. Heaven is perfect, so she is his perfection. In the next verse, I think, "I was a boy who loved a woman like a little girl" means that he didn't love her like she deserved to be loved. She was a woman and he wasn't enough of a man and therefore couldn't love her how much he thinks she deserves to be loved. I think it's just one of those, "you're so great that I could never give you everything you deserve" kind of feelings. That's all I'm up to explain. I think I just see it this way because this is exactly what I'm going through right now, so that's just how it clicked for me.
