Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Lucy Lyrics 11 years ago
I was pondering about this song and I thought this is just another one of his murder ballads.
I could be wrong though, but the line "it was the end of our love" and the fact he doesn't know where she's burried (wherever your rest) to me points this out clearly.
Makes me imagine he's either incarcerated or in an insane asylum. Especially with him "shaking on the floor", and the song having this innocuous and almost childish melody and beauty I think corroborates the point of it being a murder ballad.
I think this latter paradox is almost idiosyncratic of Cave.
E.g. Henry Lee is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and it is so acrimonious in lines.

Garbage – Milk Lyrics 11 years ago
I don't think she's necessarily manipulative.
My take on the song is that she sums how it feels being a woman, especially being alone, and that it lies somewhere along the lines of Alanis Morissette's "I'm a bitch, I'm a lover" and Portishead's "Glory box" or somewhere inbetween. She can be cold and callous, and strong and insensitive, but in the end she needs love to feel complete. I could be wrong, though...

The reasons for this interpretation lie in the first verse which to me is an epitome of being a woman:
"I am milk" milk often symbolises mother's love and care, tenderness;
"I am red hot kitchen", meaning she can also be full of passion, and fulfil your every desire;
"cool as the deep blue ocean" and she can be levelheaded as well, a nice little contrast.

Although I could be severely off-course with this, and that the first verse are just a drug references.

Asylum Party – Misfortune ? Lyrics 11 years ago
The first verse is a pure inanity...
Unwillingness to face life and running away from reality.
The second verse is, as far as I can get it, about drugs, or just a poetic notion playing across as such.

Chorus is just the facing of the realities of life--or one side of it, anyway.

Killing Joke – Love Like Blood Lyrics 11 years ago
It's all just what you dream up.
"red tears are shed on grey" pretty much reveals in the last verse that, in the end, it's all in vain. We eventually become nothing, regardless of the passion with which we live our lives and fight for what we believe in.
"as we move towards no end, we lean to die"

Dobri Isak – Mrzim te (Mrzim tvoj svet) Lyrics 11 years ago
The song is about one's feeling of inadequateness and lack of belonging in the relationship.
It expresses the inability to yield to what is perceived as a normal level of functioning in a relationship and a strong loathing for the other person's ability to do so on a daily level, from an intensely cinical viewpoint (in your house fires aren't ablaze-- meaning, there is warmth, spright or a truly honest emotion there- it's just a charade).
The line "I hate your world" is pretty self-explanatory and corroborates the previous points.

Cocteau Twins – Five Ten Fiftyfold Lyrics 12 years ago
Loneliness and isolation. The neverending monotony of the days.
I imagine a remote gothic manor with someone aged and possible on a death-bed accompanied by a child (in hand a little hand).
It conveys a very dense gothic atmosphere through the seemingly superficial wording.

To me it's clear, this is about people in power; the governments and generally all the people in charge, the ones oppressing and acting as a hindrance to human development and freedoms.
