I can't believe anyone could miss the relevance of this song. Chicago wrote this song immediately after the Kent State killings by the Ohio National Guard in 1970 and it was a rhetorical question about what to do next. Young Americans had protested for years to end the war and now had been gunned down for it. And Chicago wrote the song with its very sad and moody lyrics as if there was nothing else we could do. Check the date of release and the date of the slaughter at KSU and it will all make sense. |
