Dave Matthews Band – Gravedigger Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I LOVE that Tim Reynolds is now (and has been for a couple of years now) officially a member of DMB as the crying guitar intro to this song is one of my faves!!! |
Dave Matthews Band – Shake Me Like a Monkey Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Dave writes the most AMAZING songs about sex..... This is just another wonderful example |
Dave Matthews Band – Shake Me Like a Monkey Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This release (Big Whiskey) is truly an homage to the late, great Leroi Moore..... RIP miss you & your music |
Kongos – Come With Me Now Lyrics | 10 years ago |
unfortunately it is NOT Dave Matthews singing but the brothers who make up this band are from South Africa like Dave is........ |
Prince – Darling Nikki Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I like the FooFighter's version! |
The Beatles – Happiness Is a Warm Gun Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Absolutely....... and the Mother Superior jumped the gun reference has to do with England cracking down on Herion use |
Dave Matthews Band – Baby Blue Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I agree with your interpretation |
The Doors – People Are Strange Lyrics | 10 years ago |
The Lost Boys!!!!! |
Pet Shop Boys – West End Girls Lyrics | 10 years ago |
to take your theory a step further it could be that the west end girls that are buying the drugs from the eastern boys |
Arctic Monkeys – Do I Wanna Know? Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Thinus it does make sense - you are spending time with your "object of lust" and is evening & you are both in the moment so tomorrow day is a world away also they are making reference to the time of tomorrow which is also why these lyrics make sense |
Arctic Monkeys – Do I Wanna Know? Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This song is super sexy. Makes me wish someone would interrupt me to tell me they are constanatly on the cusp of trying to kiss me!!!! YES ARCTIC MONKEYS this feeling does flow both ways ;-) |
Flight Facilities – Crave You Lyrics | 10 years ago |
The dub step version is AMAZING! Also IMO if you are dripping in gold & wearing a knock out outfit & everyone else is staring but the guy you want because he keeps his "gaze controlled" he is either just not into you or into other options. |
Ellie Goulding – Burn Lyrics | 10 years ago |
My thought on this song is that fire = purpose or a cause you believe in strongly (such as gay marriage, equality for all, etc.) and burn = the spreading of the "fire" This is a song about standing up for what you believe in and being with others share the same dream because there is strength in numbers and the more people that believe in the same cause the greater chance for acceptance or change. |
Elvis Costello – Watching the Detectives Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This is one of my all time fave's by Mr. Costello (and he has many in my book) I always thought this song is about the jilted lover killing both her lover & the "other" woman (be she prostitute, underage lover, or simply another woman). Once the deed is complete she "watches" the detectives to make sure she is not on their radar (like a chess game she needs to be at least one step ahead of the detectives)... Hell perhaps she is even sleeping with the detectives to throw them off In my mind she gets caught in the end anyway. There is nothing in the song or the video that leads to this conclusion. Perhaps it's just the logical ending for the story unlike the unresolved ending in the song (the last verse ends with the cops telling the parents their missing daughter is dead... then the T.V is turned off??????? (It only took my little fingers to blow you away)) Also my interpretation of the lines - Though it nearly took a miracle to get you to stay It only took my little fingers to blow you away - is this: Though it nearly took a miracle to get you to stay: Out of all the movies/ Television shows on the hundreds of cable stations they chose to watch this station with the detective story playing It only took my little fingers to blow you away it only takes the press of a button to turn off the TV/ end the story |
Prince – Diamonds and Pearls Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Just because Prince wrote & sang the song does not mean that the gender of the person devoting their love is male therefore the "would you be a happy boy or a girl" depends on the point of view (POV) of the person wanting to give their love just my $0.02 - I could be way off base - perhaps it was all in the rhyming scheme as others have mentioned ;-) |
Toadies – Possum Kingdom Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Gee & I just thought it was about a creepy man that wanted to have sex with a virgin...... not murder my reasoning for the creepy pervert theory: back in the time of Shakespeare the word "die" had several different meanings besides death..... One of these meanings is to have an orgasm - Shakespeare used it as a double entendre many times in several different works including Romeo & Juliet But upon reading some of these meanings, the ages of the Toadies when this was written (I believe they were still in their teens), the park name in Texas, and a few other things...... The more literal translation of this song makes the most sense |
Dave Matthews Band – The Stone Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Agreed!!!!!!! |
Britney Spears – Everytime Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This is my all time favorite song that is not only sung by Britney but also written by her as well Whether or not it was written about the loss of JT or regret for how she treated him (cheating) or just heartbreak in general when she sings it you can hear the raw emotion Such a simplistic (lyrically), melancholy, beautiful song Britney you should write a couple more songs for yourself and not always conform/give in to the poppy BS your manager or whomever gives you to sing |
Dave Matthews Band – Grey Street Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Yes!!!! This is my favorite version of Grey Street. It is also the best version to glean the meaning from....... This song is truly about Dave's late sister who was a victim of domestic abuse by her husband which led to her death (because he killed her) |
Dave Matthews Band – Grey Street Lyrics | 10 years ago |
agreed this is about Dave's sister who was in an abusive relationship and later killed by her husband in South Africa |
Prince – Purple Rain Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Prince is an AMAZING artist that can do it all - writes his own music (as well as music for others (ex: Nothing Compares to U - sung by Sinead O'Connor), plays guitar (and just about every other instrument under the sun - but guitar is his personal fave), and sexy to boot I think my favorite guitar solo of his is when he did "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on the George Harrison Tribute (or some other Beatle thingy) Purple Rain is a great song - top 3 fave out of all Prince Songs |
Prince – Purple Rain Lyrics | 10 years ago |
If your going to use the movie as the interpretation for the song then your dada part is way off base - for that it would be he misses his father & wants to see him 1 last time for closure - remember in the movie his "dada" committed suicide & yes I know I am posting a reply 12 years after the original post |
Elton John – Rocket Man Lyrics | 10 years ago |
incorrect - there is such a thing as zero hour military time - zero hundred hours is = to midnight Also this song references a Ray Bradbury story about a rocket man......... other inferences can & have been made (just reading the comments) but as has been stated before in these comments sometimes a song is just a song |
Elton John – Rocket Man Lyrics | 10 years ago |
um yeah, you are basing your comments on the Christian bible & Friedrich Nietzsche (a philosopher or thinker)........ but in reality you need to broaden your homophobic horizons or as you put it "trash your own lonely, resin-based, bent, Pepsi can for a clear missioned open mind". I personally am agnostic - meaning I believe in a greater power but that power could be any diety as god is not the only faith based religion on the planet Also have read the christian bible, the catholic bible, and the koran. I have read & studied wiccan, pagan & other beliefs Among all of these religions there is one truth & that is that the diety loves us as we are - dieties do not care if you are gay or straight....... BELIEVE THAT!!!! |
Awolnation – Sail Lyrics | 10 years ago |
The singer/songwriter has ADD & is telling us what it is like growing up with ADD & how people perceive him as ADD not as a person with ADD (which he is) I can relate on some level - my son was diagnosed with ADD (he is definately NOT hyperactive) when he was in kindergarten & I can see the second he "tunes out" or "sails away" (as the song says). I can also relate on some level to the people teachers/friends that chalk everything he does good or bad up to his ADD. He is a person & deserves not to be known for his condition, but for himself |
Awolnation – Sail Lyrics | 10 years ago |
SGN432 - First I have never ever heard any pot smoker use the term sail to pass a joint - is the urban dictionary you are looking at from the 60s'???? was the term Julio in your urban dictionary as a term for marijuana - cuz I only ever hear that reference in a song (from the late 60's early 70's by Paul Simon) You obviously neither have ADD nor ever smoked "herb" as it is clear that your interpretation has nothing to do with the real meaning of the song |
The Beatles – Happiness Is a Warm Gun Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Yes.... This song is about heroin.... the warm gun is the needle after injection... the happiness is the drugs taking effect. Mother Superior jumping the gun.....was England's at cleaning up the heroin sales in the streets of England - which happened in the late 60's I believe (not positive as was a little before my time) |
The Beatles – Happiness Is a Warm Gun Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Yes.... This song is about heroin.... the warm gun is the needle after injection... the happiness is the drugs taking effect. |
A Great Big World – Say Something Lyrics | 10 years ago |
this song is about a broken relationship & the one doing the breaking up doesn't want the relationship to end but knows it is unavoidable because the other person won't "say something" to keep the relationship alive (even if just for a little while longer), while also knowing that the other person is the one they will love forever. This song makes me think of Against All Odds -> Phil Collins in which he stands their watching her walk away - knowing she will never come back (hence the title "Against All Odds") but stands there mourning his loss watching her leave & knowing that she won't even look back & "see him cry" |
Dave Matthews Band – Time Bomb Lyrics | 10 years ago |
IMO some others have hit this nail on the head. This song is a nod to the losses in his life & how unbelieveably they occured. His sister's death at the hands of her husband & LeRoi's untimely death due to complications from an accident. Dave is agnostic bordering on atheistic (as am I) and writing seems to be his coping/healing mechanism. Perhaps he was depressed as some others have stated & needed to let go of some of those horrible feelings. Makes me feel like Dave needs a big hug & lots of support from the people around him. |
The Police – Every Breath You Take Lyrics | 10 years ago |
oops - Last song I meant was Spirits in the Material World = ??? is on the Ghosts in the Machine album |
The Police – Every Breath You Take Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This is the creepy stalker song by the Police that EVERYONE seems to mistake for a love song, heck even Diddy used it in a song to mourn the loss of Biggie Smalls The Police as a group seem to like writing/singing about the darker sides of human nature. i.e. Don't stand so (close to me) = student teacher relationship, Roxanne = prostitution, Ghosts in the Machine = ?? but is dark & creepy just like the rest |
George Michael – Father Figure Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This song is about an inexperienced (in love..... not sex) younger guy/gal & the older guy that wants to teach them. The father figure wants a full on relationship (love, sex, maybe even marriage - as GM keeps mentioning forever....) but the younger has been hurt (possibly raped or molested) and cannot give or maybe does not understand what love really is.. This is just my take on this song...... Is one of my faves from GM |
No Doubt – End It On This Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Absolutely agree!!! Gwen has even stated in interviews when tragic kingdom was at it's most popular that she thought they (her & Tony) were gonna be together forever, get married, have kids. Then he breaks up with her & her whole world came tumbling down around her so her healing process was to put her feelings into songs and Tragic Kingdom was born |
Gwen Stefani – Cool Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Gwen Stefani is a master at taking her real emotions and her real life experiences and putting them into songs lyrics. ie: don't speak, ex-girlfriend, Sunday Morning, Just a Girl, etc. Cool is just one more example of this. When Tony Kanal broke up with her, she thought they were gonna get married & be together forever. They say time heals all wounds - this song is her voicing that expression They have both moved on - but can still maintain a relationship as friends and will remain so until they are both old and grey. |
The Beatles – I Am the Walrus Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I was just listeneing to this song and the background voices say both of these things A deep male voice says the smoke pot part and female voices are saying everybody's got one the smoke pot part comes in first & continues while the ladies are overlaid saying the everybody's got one.... |
