It's so amazing how this song deals with every angle of the frustration that the listener can be dealing with. Regardless of what is "the object" that the song is referring to (a girl, stronger religious connection, job, emotional or financial stability, risking more in life...), you can understand that the singer is expressing a wide range of feelings about the uncomfortable place the 'character' is in of tormenting indecision, and how this is 'dangerous'. In the first verses, he is very emphatic in stating that he dislikes the middle ground he is in, not being able to completely 'let go' of it or to fully embrace it. The symbolism of the rain here is something that comes and cleanses, washes everything clean, making new beginnings, changing everything, what the author desperately wants, something to point him in the right direction again. "Listen to the sound of the rain, can it take me home again?" The second verse (after chorus) details a lot of the messy thoughts and emotions going through his mind stopping him to take any stance. He describes the fear of trusting again of what he believes and being hurt, at the same time he reminisces of how it felt good when he actually did trust, even questioning if it's even right to do it (with a sense of guilt), he too unsure and confused. In the chorus, he is lamenting about how dangerous it is that his mind is in this fractured state. Divided between how he gave up on all of his other aspirations while clinging to this one only wanting this to work; between how he thinks that he knows what will happen if he 'goes for it' but actually not knowing at all the consequences. Every time he has to face these thoughts it's a huge struggle. He is also very hard striving emotionally and rationally to get out of this tortuous 'comfort trap' of indecision: writing songs about how he will move forward, crossing off reasons that would make him give up, and even trying to convince himself that he will gain something from this decision. In the end, he exclaims in a calm and tired voice to just "take me home again", to where he should be, to this place of evolution, to the new and right direction. All he wants, in the end, is to achieve Peace of mind. |

Obviously this songs it`s about the relationship between God and people and if I may say, in this case specifically Peter. Not only that but at the same time we can put ourselves in Peter`s place since we are as human as he was. "On the way to grey I could hardly wait To see you again To feel your hands Covering me Til the storm is done What seemed to be the end Was not the end at all When I hear the rain Should I be afraid For my, for my For my... life" -- I think is about Peter thoughts and insecurities after Jesus' crucification. "Why do you look at me that way? I told you That I was too busy to see you I would never Keep a secret from you From you From you" -- What he he said to Jesus before he was send to be crucified hiding and neglecting the would deny Jesus in public. "Is it over? I am fine Thank you dearly For your time I'll be leaving Don't you cry I'll be back soon At least I'll try Can't you see There is no time to think Selfishly Yesterday's gone Tomorrow's here Can't turn back now I won't quit I still love you I swear I always will" -- Jesus reply to Peter's worrying about the crucification and being left alone. He show how sweet and zealous He is to us even before our offenses. In specific to Peter that denied Jesus 3 times He says the He still loves him and He always will and He will try to revisit him after His death by cross (with He did). It`s heavily emotional and spiritual what this songs brings but we can relate to it too. We try to live for God and make our way to please Him but time after time we fall back to sins that offends deeply God making us enter into despair and feeling unprotected and abandoned. But God, time after time just 'madly' show us again His furious love that drives aways all ours concerns in life and make us whole again, I can put myself in this song when I try to justify my mistakes to Him even knowing I am wrong and feeling bad about it ""fearing the storms" when suddenly God just forgive me and say that everything going to be okay. That is my vision and why I find this song so meaningful |

Emery cleary wants to finish the album with a powerful message putting we inside of a head of a man with a bitter look of life after being a horrible person (as we can realize in the previous tracks). It`s really unsetling to see how his head it`s filled with regrets, unhappyness and disgust for life. He don`t even want to be open to the world again, he hates what he become, all that because he left his wills and emotions take over his life when he was younger and now he have to face what he became. "I`m only a man" it`s a common thought that everyone uses to excuses theirselves to make whatever they want, but sometime sooner or later the consequences come, and this is the message this songs wants to expose in the end of this insightful and powerful album. |

Song about suicide. If you consider that this song belongs to an album with a story that is told song after song in order, this song comes 2 tracks after one song where this same guy sings about how his wife got killed and possibly by his fault ("can`t stop the killer"). This situation left him with a daughter and an empty life and a lot of suicidal thoughts, SO... in this songs the guy sings about how he feels after that, he knows what bad things he had done or allowed to happen to his wife and his life making it meaningless now and "Everyday is just another regret". Then, he "Wake in the middle of the night, just don't believe everything's all right. When these thoughts are running around your head. " and after that he plans to leave a goodbye note and disappear (common suicidal acts). In the middle of the song he tries to run away from reality and tells about his dream of living in a calm and desert island and disappearing in the ocean, carrying he away (drowning maybe?) so he don`t have anything more to worry in life. It`s really sad. Although this song is sad and shocking we all have the thoughts of "I can't find any way out" but this is so " loud as a gunshot" to people with tendencies of suicide that this songs makes you understand what happens in the head of someone with that feelings. People who think in end theirs lives can relate exactly with this song, it`s very powerful and serious like the most of Emery songs. |
