It's a song about not knowing what to do, and the depression that can come with it The song title and lyric "To and fro the pendulum throws" both imply time ticking away, ala an antique clock with a pendulum "Understand what we don't know This might pass This might last This may grow Easy come and easy go Easy left me a long time ago" A state of apathy is described here, his depression "may pass, last or grow."
