| Friendly Fires – Skeleton Boy Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I think the song plays with the 'can an ex be a friend?' idea. To me, it is about going back out on the town with your friends (including your, now recent, ex) and having to "see it through" the night, desperately admiring her but knowing that it is over and you have no choice but to adjust to it. He makes a frequent comment about facing the night and seeing it through and, I believe, about how her beauty is "too much" to bare. Yet, to "shake hands and say goodbye" is to take it on the chin and be a friend, while "should we even care at all?" is his mental struggle to not overtly acknowledge their history as it may make her think a friendship is impossible. This may also have some relation to the "skeleton boy" lyric, but who knows! haha |
