The National – Rylan Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is so beautiful. I'm holding out for a deluxe edition of Trouble Will Find Me (like the one of HV all those years ago) with a studio version of Rylan on it.

It's definitely 'tried' and not 'try' - it fits in better with the tense, and that sounds like what Matt is singing. I hear 'grand' too, but 'grounded' also makes sense. And I prefer 'eat your pearls', too. In context, it gives off the lovely image of an aristocratic person struggling to fit in and retain their class - especially the 'keep your conversation boring' line that follows.

Yeah, but you know, US spellings are designed for people who want to take short-cuts.

Always remember Morrissey's story about someone throwing a sausage at him during a performance of this song, and it hit his mouth. He had to stop the song to go offstage and heave.

The industrialisation of an industry? Really?

With the exception of fish, most of the animals that humans kill and eat for food are actually vegetarian. Cows, chickens, sheep. All of that "food chain" and "survival of the fittest" stuff does not apply.

All animals do not eat eachother. In fact, most of the animals we eat do not eat eachother. Cows, chickens, sheep, etcetera... are all vegetarians.

Sauvinon is a type of wine. As one person pointed out, though, it could also be referring to the nature of the vine its grapes grow on. However, as Matt's pretty alcohol-driven, it's pretty clear. Or perhaps a double meaning?

"Grapes in my mouth" maybe refers to drinking wine? After all, we know how Matt Berninger feels about his wine.

Although, on another note, I think the "blank white" line refers to someone trying to blend in, as opposed to suicide. Suicide also seems a little out of place.
