| Linkin Park – Lying from You Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I always like to read comments about how the song could be relating to the music industry and how tough it is for bands such as Linkin Park who have always been known for going against the norm and making the music that THEY want to make. However, I don't think this song particularly speaks about that but if anyone wanted to look at it that way they're perfectly obligated to. However this is MY take on the meaning of the lyrics. It sounds like it could have a number of different meanings and really I think that there are different messages that you could get out of it but they all intertwine. In the first verse he's reflecting on what his life looks like when he's pretending to be what someone else wants him to be. And yeah it looks good to them, but to him he feels out of touch with who he really is. A lot of times people try and fake an image to fit someone else's fantasy or even society for that matter, of how they should be. And sometimes you get lost in the process. But anyway, with the lines "When I pretend I can forget about the criminal I am" it sounds like he's envisioning himself as this perfect image other than what or who he actually is and for a moment the image is consistent with that society views him as. However what he CAN"T do is pretend that that's the way things are going to stay because it's just NOT who he is so it's simply not possible to pretend. We can try and bend the truth all we want as Chester said, but we are who we are and we can't change who we are. So he's recognizing that he can't be the person society or whoever wants him to be so it's best to just break away from that mold. You're doing things your way and your perfectly happy with that. And with the chorus, It is much better to stay away and be on your own than to live up to someone else's expectations. When he says "the very worst part of you is me" refers to the fact that society or whoever the person is hates the fact that he's breaking the mold and doing what he wants and they want to change him. This can also be looked at as him thinking he's a bad influence on the person and it's better for him to stay away because indeed the very worst part of that person is him. So if you're with someone who is influencing you in a negative way or turning you into something you're not, then you'd better get away quickly and don't look back. so with the next verse he continues talking about how people have talked down to him all his life and tried to tell him who he should be and at one point in his life he had actually given in and molded himself to fit those demands. Again with the fake image that is completely separate from his true self. So while others are happy and thinking this is who he is, he knows deep down who he is and while he's trying to "bend the truth" he realizes that he can't. And when you can't meet the demands of someone else what do you do? You break away and move on. With the last lines where he says "This isn't what I wanted to be, I never thought that what I said would have you running from me" sort of sounds like maybe he's regretting for a moment the person that he is because now no one accepts him or acknowledges him. Or perhaps he's sort of feeling remorse for whoever he's talking to because now they're avoiding him and not wanting anything to do with him. Again back to my whole bad influence thing. So those two themes could be looked at when listening to this song but the big take home message is: Don't try and pretend to be someone you're not to please someone else. Let them be upset or angry with you, or choose not to have anything to do with you. What matters is that you're content with who you are as a person. |

| Linkin Park – Leave Out All the Rest Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
To me this about the fear of dying and being remembered for the bad rather than the good things in your life. Older people will tend to reflect on their lives and wonder if they've lived one of worth and if they've accomplished everything they've wanted to accomplish. You want to die with the comfort of knowing you were someone of worth so you can have that sense of peace and content when your time does indeed come. He's saying that when he dies, he doesn't want to be remembered for the wrong he's done and he wants someone to miss him. It would be terrible to leave this earth and then no one would miss you when you're gone. I don't think anyone wants that. He basically doesn't want his wrongs to be the reason for someone to resent him. Rather he'd be remembered for his good qualities and to literally "leave out all the rest." On the next verse where he states "Don't be afraid, I've taken my beating." It sounds to me like he's reassuring himself that he can die knowing that what's done is done and there is no need in grieving over it. He's paid for is wrongs and he's taken responsibility for them. So because he has done this, there is no reason for someone else to hold it against him. I like to use the phrase "What Right do you have to judge me for what I've already been forgiven for?" And if you want to put a religious spin on this and your relationship with God you can do that too. The moment when you repent and ask him for forgiveness and have this sense of peace with God and yourself, and so your only fear now is what others will think of you after you're long gone. Simple answer to that question: As long as you make peace with yourself and God, who cares what anyone else thinks? Especially if you're dead and gone I think the last thing you're going to be worried about is what people on earth are thinking. But aside from all that, assuming you wouldn't prefer to look at it from a religious perspective, you could take it as again taking responsibility for your actions and your wrongs. And once you do that, no one has the right to blame you or judge you because you have already taken that upon yourself. This goes along with the lines "Forgetting all the hurt inside you've learned to hide so well...pretending someone else can come and save me from myself." Basically he's recognizing the face that there's no point in hiding from your past and your feelings and it's best to own up to them and let them go. Don't sit there and point fingers at anyone else for your own wrongs. Be mature enough to blame yourself sometimes. And also, don't waste time feeling sorry for yourself and waiting for someone else to come and help you solve your problems. No, you have to be that person to bring yourself from whatever darkness you're experiencing and to solve your own problems. It's okay to ask for help but don't rely solely on anyone else. |

| Linkin Park – I'll Be Gone Lyrics | 12 years ago |

And yet another song that reminds me of suicide. The lyrics are pretty complex and yet the meaning is clear. When everyone opens their eyes and it's a new morning and the sun is rising, he won't be there. As the seasons change, again he won't be there. Because he made the decision to take his own life for whatever reason, especially toward the end where he says "Tell them I couldn't help myself, tell them I was alone." He's pretty much saying that If anyone wants to know why I did this, tell them these reasons. Tell them that I had no reason to keep living and so I took it upon myself to end my own life. I mean, like I said, pretty blatant message. Or on the not so depressing side of things, you could look at it as an appreciation for nature and the beauty of the world. Notice the imagery he uses when describing the night and then the morning when the sun rises and sets, and then when he talks about the changing of seasons. Perhaps he feels he has no place in such a world as this which he describes as beautiful and "bittersweet" so he takes himself out of it. |

| Linkin Park – In The End Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
To me this is about the value of time and you're looking back at certain points in your life wondering how in the hell you put up with certain things for as long as you did. There truly is so many hours in a day and time goes by so fast and because of this, life is precious and every moment should be spent wisely. If you're wasting time trying to keep someone else happy and you're wasting time with a lost cause then you're wasting your own time in the process and no one ends up happy in the end. Perhaps he's reflecting back on a past relationship and questioning himself because obviously he's not the same person that he was then. It sounds like he put so much into the relationship and he really wanted it to succeed but turns out his attempts were in vain and it all fell apart. I think a lot of us have looked back and regretted time wasted on someone because that could've been time better spent somewhere else. There is absolutely no point in trying to change someone because people simply don't change, no matter how hard you try to change them. To try would be a frustrating and failed attempt. Then you get to that point in your life where you try and try but things still don't go your way and you wonder, what's the point? Why even bother? But sometimes, the best learning experiences come from hitting rock bottom and working yourself back up from scratch. Because you're shedding that old skin and growing into a better and stronger person. So as he's reflecting on this not so fortunate period in his life, he's remembering the bad times and the bad qualities of the person he was with and it's almost like he's talking down to her in a condescending manner when he says "You wouldn't even recognize me anymore...not that you knew me back then..." Because he's not the same persons. He's stronger and above her and the damage she caused. To go even further to say that she didn't even know him to begin with. "I'm surprised it got so far" Again, he's questioning how he let this go on for so long without doing anything about it. And a lot of times we do tend to stay in bad relationships for whatever reason and making the decision to get out of them takes courage and willpower. The fact that he seems to have accomplished this makes him the bigger person. Furthermore, putting your trust into someone only to be let down in the end truly hurts. You had so much faith and so much hope and then you just watch it burn to the ground. But that's the moment where you pick yourself up again, brush it off, and move on. The song doesn't necessarily have to refer to a specific relationship; it could just be talking about the value of time in general and how important it is not to waste it. But if you do happen to stumble across unfortunate periods where you do find your time wasted, then there's no point in wasting even more time feeling sorry for yourself. Sure, grieve, think about it and what could've been done differently to change it, but after you get past that then let go and move forward. Once you've accomplished this, then you're no longer the same person you were before. You're someone new and better. |

| Linkin Park – Faint Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I think it could definitely be looked at as you're a social outcast or a loner and you want to fit in but no one seems to notice you. Also it could be about wanting to be heard and making yourself heard. Maybe you're living in someone else's shadow and you don't have the courage to stand up to them and make them think that you're someone of worth and significance. Loneliness and insecurity are definitely qualities of a person who doesn't fit in and they are usually invisible to the world. So you go through life complaining about it but not exactly making the effort to do anything about it. At least not until the part where Chester screams "Hear me out now, you're going to listen to me like it or not" that's pretty much the moment where he gets fed up with being invisible and instead of wishing someone would listen, he's making them listen and not giving them the option to ignore him anymore. It's taking a stand for yourself and putting yourself out there because if you wander through life at the back of the line with your head down and silent, no one is going to hear you nor care. YOU have to make yourself heard. | |
| Linkin Park – Easier To Run Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Well I don't think there is any better way to put this than assuming these lyrics really refer to thoughts of suicide. What is else is better than staying in hell on earth and subjecting yourself to all this pain and you feel too weak and powerless to do anything about it? Obviously taking your own life or perhaps self harm. Or maybe it's not even something as extreme as that. He could just be wanting to find some way to numb his raging emotions and the pain that he's feeling because even though some say it's better to hurt than feel nothing at all? Well in some cases people would rather feel numb than feel the hurt and pain they're quite used to in everyday life. The fact that you can't escape these painful memories or even vivid images replaying over and over in your head, whether it be from an abusive relationship or any horrific experience, can be quite miserable. And his past seems to be haunting him relentlessly. There is a moment where he contemplates change, and actually making the move to turn his life around. He states that if he could take responsibility for his actions and take the blame then he would but the weight of the burden is just too much for him to bear. Sometimes it's just much easier to run away from our feelings or our past than face them head on. | |
| Linkin Park – Don't Stay Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This song is a pretty good song for blowing off some steam. If you've just been in a fight with someone or if someone is just really pissing you off. But I think that in terms of relationships, it's about being with someone who wants to change and/or control you and you want to break away from that. He feels suffocated to the point where he has to literally remind himself to breathe. Perhaps she was so caught up in trying to shape and mold him to the image she wanted him to be rather than having faith in him and accepting him for who he is. So he's literally wanting out, wanting to forget about her and the failed relationship. | |
| Miley Cyrus – Wrecking Ball Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
To me it sounds like she fell hard for someone but the relationship was emotionally unstable and unequal. She was definitely putting more into it than he was yet she had so many expectations toward him. "I put you high up in the sky" and we all know not to expect too much from guys, because one, not to offend any guys that may be around, but it does usually take them longer to get emotionally attached than it does for a girl. You can't rush them or you'll only be left disappointed. And when she said "All I wanted was to break your walls" or the line "I just wanted you to let me in" She desperately wanted him to feel the same way she did for him. She wanted him to open up to her emotionally but she went about it the wrong way. I think the wrecking ball is a metaphor for rushing things, or forcing feelings that may never even grow in the first place. Feelings need to be allowed time to develop and by her "using force" or coming on too strong, it only led to destruction in the end. It's quite similar to my own relationship. We're emotionally unequal at the moment and I'm trying my best to be patient with him rather than trying to rush or scare him off. Ladies, let her song be a lesson or a warning to you for your men. They need to be given time so that you may grow not only together but as individuals. It's agonizing, yes, when you feel strongly for someone and you want them to feel the same way but it takes time and if those feelings don't develop than perhaps it's time to move on. However, the mistake that Miley made is she tried to force it on him or rush him. And no one wants to be in love all by themselves, believe me it's the worst feeling ever. I could be totally wrong but this is my personal interpretation. And everyone has their own opinions but this one holds true for me:) |

| That's a really good interpretation! I think the song could be looked at in a variety of different ways and this one definitely sounds accurate. But of course, who knows in less we were to ask her ourselves right?:P | |
| The Boxer Rebellion – Diamonds Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| To me I take it as h's comparing her to a diamond, and when you think of diamonds you think of beauty, perfection, flawless. And that he's no good in comparison and pretty much dull in comparison to the point where he fades if he stands too close. So pretty much the message I get from it is that he doesn't feel he's good enough for her and he's put her on top of this pedestal. And perhaps she's tried to change him, but as we all know people don't change. And he realizes this so he's just wanting to let go of her or "fade" And he really has no words like he said in the last line of the song. It's just better or the both of them to move on. Even though he obviously loves her enough to compare her to such a beautiful item such as the likes of a diamond. | |
