Indochine – J'ai demandé à la lune Lyrics 12 years ago
A few people have put in pieces of translation to help the discussion on this, and I wanted to put in a full one:

(1)
I asked the moon
And the sun didn't know it.
I showed her (the moon) my burns
And the moon made fun of me.

(2)
And since the sky didn't look too good
And I wasn't healing
I told myself what bad luck
And the moon made fun of me

(3)
I asked the moon
If you still wanted me
She told me, "I don't usually
Deal with situations like that."

(4)
And you and I, we were so sure
And sometimes we told ourselves
That it was just a fling
And that it wouldn't last.

(5)
I don't have much to tell you
And not much to make you laugh
Because I always imagine the worst
And the best makes me suffer

Repeat (3) and (4)

Indochine – J'ai demandé à la lune Lyrics 12 years ago
I always thought (like others here) that this song was about lovers who never intended to get close or have anything long term, but that the narrator has fallen for the other.

But I recently watched Indochine's video... and the singer spends the entire narrative walking towards the camera, first carrying a baby, then carrying a young girl, until finally an older girl (still in maybe her preteens) walks by herself and joins the singer in a duet.

This put a whole different twist on the song for me and made me wonder about it in context of a father raising a young girl, seeing the time they have together as a potentially short-lived adventure and hoping she would still want him to be a part of his life as she grows older.

That being said, the expression "C'était just une aventure" is more commonly used as "It was just a fling."
