Knowing that the singer identifies as queer, I can't help but hear it as she's confused and scared because she's suddenly having feelings for a man, just like it's confusing for someone who's always identified as straight to suddenly have feelings for the same sex. The verses: "Your body's harmful, the very shape" and "this is a thirst that I've never had I've never bled for another man" Are what really make me think that, and then there's the verse: "In the darkness comes, another, another Hold her by the thumbs, the other, the other." Sounds like she's maybe torn between the man and a women or just women in general. The "Don't wanna lose you, don't wanna lose" might be she's always identified as queer and now she's having feelings for the man, she doesn't want to lose him, but she feels like she's losing something that's a part of her and she's at war with herself. I don't know, just how I hear it. =) This is my first attempt at interpreting a song, so I apologise if it's terrible and disorganised. Love this song and band though! |
