AJJ – People II: The Reckoning Lyrics 12 years ago
This song can be interpreted as depiction of manic depression/bipolar disorder, being these words not a metaphor as implied by a comment posted before.

My two cents:

"Everything is difficult
Except what's in front of you
But it's complicated even under your nose
Bullshit math equations
And your highs and your lows"

I interpret this as a metaphor for mania. He says that everything is difficult, but when you are manic you're overly confident, and in some cases even hyper-productive hence the line "Except what's in front of you", but of course that confidence doesn't automatically solves everything, you just think you can work everything out but you still have to struggle with things ("But it's complicated even under your nose, Bullshit math equations And your highs and your lows")

"Everything is real but it's also just as fake
From your daughter's birthday party to your grandmother's wake"
He realizes that everything is fake, nothing is authentic. People just perpetuate the same old rites, even emotions and reactions to certain events, they just repeat or copy things learned from the past or someone else. I also think this could be a description of how a bipolar person feels in life. Bipolar disorder is often artistically represented by a drawing of two masks. Everything is an act for him, he has to put on masks in order to function in life because he cannot feel as a 'sane' person would so he has to be fake, an actor.

"I've tried to know which words to sing so many times
And I've tried to know which chords to play
And I've tried to make it rhyme
And I've tried to find the key that all good songs are in
And I've tried to find the notes to make that great resounding din"
I like the interpretations previously posted for these lines but I think this could be also interpreted as being a depiction of a manic episode. When you have a manic episode you have racing thoughts, become more creative, etc. So this could mean he's in a manic episode trying to write songs.

And the final lines, the whole 'Mrs. Robinson' section could be interpreted as the depressive episode.
