***"All the sellers" should be "Upsellers" This song is about coming to terms with the fact that harboring anger toward phonies/pretenders/assholes doesn't do you any good. It just ends up poisoning your own mindset. The sentence "They want my soul" pegs the feeling so well. Spending your time thinking about manipulators and fakes is literally taking away from the rest of your life. I really love the line, "Let's go lose track of time / somebody's gotta." Only Britt Daniel could write such a succinct testament to enjoying your life, and letting go of bullshit. It reminds me of "We found a new kind of a dance in a magazine / tried it out, it's like nothing you've ever seen" from The Way We Get By. These lines seem so light and flippant, but they actually pack so much feeling and meaning. Lastly, I love the desperation with which the line "All they want's my soul, YES, YES I KNOW." So good. |
