This song is so catchy. There are 2 theories in the Universes life cycle. Since the Big Bang we are in expansion, we will either continue to expand, or expansion will reach its maximum point and then begin to contract again into whats called the Big Crunch. The Big Crunch will then reach a critical mass creating a singularity (another Big Bang) and the cycle starts again. As previously mentioned it is about losing some one you have loved and he is trying to find solace in seeing her again and making it right. He is imagining the Universe contracting, and everything playing backwards in the process, and that he will be with her again. And this time, they will part as friends the way they met, not with all the emotional baggage and feelings of hurt you have after giving someone your love and breaking up. In a way the song to me is about how we tend to end relationships badly, atleast one person is hurt, or angry, often both. Because we have invested so much emotion in to it, we can simply let it go and walk away as friends. This song is a, would it be nice if scenario. |

Great song, its about parting ways, but in a permanent way, death in this case and the way we are remembered. He is dying, and wants to be remembered for exactly who he is, not glorified and told about how he was such a wonderful person. He doesn't believe in god, hence he's "laughing at them when they say this is not the end" because he knows it is the end, its just something they are saying to him to make him feel better. Hence the line "but this really is the end" I guess we all have a dark side, and in death its usually never mentioned, only about how wonderful we were. And this guys feels it doesn't do justice to him to not remember him completely, good and bad. He does care for people because he says "its so sad to leave you" he's just admitting that he was pretty selfish and wasn't the nicest person to them. So remember in death like I was in life. |
