Geoff explained this song live at how he recorded this song and sent it to his then ex girlfriend, basically begging her to stay with him. I appreciate looking into it deeper but it has nothing to do with Watkins, a lot of No Devotion's lyrics have similar meanings and mostly written by Geoff and mostly written about his girlfriend. (His girlfriend got back with him after hearing this song, pretty sweet) |

I reckon this song is about K Flay, when he talks about "Suburban Rap Queen", according to Wikipedia this is what she was called when she started. A bit confusing as Lars has done a few songs with her, like We Have Arrived and she does a quality rap on it

Fucking love this song. Ultimately saying fuck you to someone, I'm pretty sure. I think it's also about a breakup, not being able to be annoyed about it because "all's fair in love", and then comparing it to war too. I love the opening four lines too. I can relate as I went through a "nice breakup", where we're still friends, when really, I just wanna shout "I hate long goodbyes, fuck off and die, you can bury my heart with your box of lies". Most people take this song as an angry breakup song. To me it's not an angry one. It's the nicest possible breakup, which in some ways hurts so much more, for much longer. Me and my girlfriend were together for 5 years and we broke up before both going separate ways at university. We don't hate each other. I know I still love her, but it relates so much to this song, saying that you can go your own way. Amazing song, brilliance |
