A nice song about a traditional man and women’s relationship on a nice summer day. After the 5 day grind during the summer, after a long week at work… it is nice to come back home to a nice meal after a nice embrace …. Maybe a bit.. sexist…. I am sure a woman doing the traditional role at home still worried about things even back in 1974… I think both roles, being the ""bread winner"" or the house spouse... are both equally important! Being the house spouse sounds appealing to me… work can be such a drag! :) |

@[SemanticsDavid:2561] I changed my mind, he isn't trying to climb out to escape but to demonstrate his strength... but the child shows that fighting dirty may work better! |

The video represents an individuals internal struggle between the masculine adult self and its feminine child self. The inner child is trying desperately to free itself from the confins of the masculine "cage". The child self taunts, acts crazy, slips in and out of the "cage" trying anything, trying to free itself from the "cage", not necessarily understanding how the "cage" is constraining its adult self or how its limiting its adult self. My favourite move is the backwards, hand through leg attack! what adult would EVER try that! ;) next fight I get in... maybe I will pull that one out... ( I don't actual expect to get into one anytime soon...) The masculine adult self wants to escape, tries climbing, tries slipping through, tries brute force. It wants to remember its child self, be gentle with it but it has forgotten whats its like to be free like a child and is scared of it. It can't find a way to escape, to grow or change... falls back to the easily shown masculine emotion of anger when it gets frustrated. At the end... they struggle desperately together to be free of the constraints but it can't.... the social construct of masculinity is powerful and strong. I can relate to this as a male but I do think masculinity constraints all individuals in different ways. I don't know if the lyrics align with this interpretation exactly, they seem to be more about a relationship between two separate people but could be about an internal struggle within one. I think the video can have more independent interpretations about a few different dichotomies. It is a really great video! |
