I don't really know why, but since I heard this song I consider myself indebted to Morrissey. I mean, how does he constantly repeats 'Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head' it just makes me cry and think: A man who writes this kind of lyrics must have gone through big depression and loss of faith in love, which I think is the song about. For me it's about that, loss of faith in love, 'cause you know you will never feel love again, or maybe you just have never felt it yet because you're ugly o whatever.
However, this songs makes me cry and makes me think about Morrissey in a compassionate way... |

If there's something I hate is how people ALWAYS find something 'gay' in The Smiths' songs! I mean, I know there're a lot of songs were you can find some 'apologize' to an homoerotic behaviour, but not in ALL of their songs. Remember that most of their tracks have some 'ironic' messages, and sometimes is just literally. In my opinion this song is about stealling spiritual things; Morrissey said in a lot of interviews that this song was about that, like who he stold 'spiritual' things from (for example): Oscar Wilde, 'A Taste Of Honey', Elvis Presley, etcetcetc...
I think it has nothing to do with homosexuals and gays, please stop thinking ALL of their( The Smiths) songs has something to do with an homosexual point of view. |
