I think this song is about a couple guys who start a dangerous buisness or something of the sort and it goes on for a long while. But after some time, one of the guys starts taking more and more chances and ends op getting caught. He blames himself and takes the fall for his friend, hence the pick in callused hands. It seems like when he says the sun beats down across my back, he's also talking about being whipped. After that it sounds like he's saying that hanging around him can't lead to anything good. At the end it sounds like he's saying he's in a lot of trouble and might be killed soon, or just that he'll probably be away for a long while. But he's thankful that someone cared enough to stick with him. |
