Dark and classic Cure, modern art, musically incredible. Been listening to this on and off since the album came out in the 80s, Used to watch the Vh1 and mtv interviews, ... and I think the song is about checking out of the masses, into a dark but safe place. Hints of a drug trip, like mushrooms or acid. Not about dying, but a deathless spell. Getting ill as it was. Never wanting it to end. I like his description: slide into into dark black water and breathing burning eyes like stars bury us deep in his velvet arms |

| I find this to be a beautiful sad song, one of my fav electronic pieces. I still dont know if my interpretation is even close, but I think the writer was not a popular kid, and wanted to be friends with a certain girl. He tried, but was treated cold, (with sharp edges). He heard or saw her and her sisters play, and wanted to be part of the fun. Appears years later he tried to write her, and to no avail. I think the black tin box is a metaphor for the house he was confined to, inside looking out, wanting to play with the kids (especially one girl). But something kept him inside his black tin box, not sure if it was shyness, parents, etc. | |

| This one is my favorite. Listened thousands of times over the years and the album is a collective piece of artful genius. A masterpiece. The iconic 'Everything in it's right place" has become clear to me that RH was sarcastically making a statement of moving into their own direction, something new, much less in its right place. Not too concerned about popular. Not really hearing or caring too much about others opinions, their label, or money. "What was that you tried to say?" Oh, I wasn't listening to you [Mr. beige]. With a large dose of sarcasm, chastising the ones who believe there is order in creativity, or even sanity. To want things to be 'in it's right place' is someone elses idea. Sucking a lemon this morning, going to try a new direction today, and shock the daily routine. Also sour face to those who want things in their right place. While seeing two colors, we all see many in the minds eye I hope, but others may want you to see colors their way. What was that you tried to say? Is a nice way of saying I did it my way, but will listen to your ideas after I'm done [mr. beige]. | |
