| Regina Spektor – Samson Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I know that this song has been clarified to be based upon the biblical story of Samson And Delilah, but before I found this out I developed an interpretation of my own. It seems that as throughout the song she sings of the changes in Samson's hair, it's representing cancer. How his hair got lesser and lesser. "You are my sweetest downfall" could be meaning that she knows he will die and leave her, but she stays with him anyway. He means so much to her, but he is ultimately a downfall in her life. There will be no evidence of their love after he is gone, shown in "the history books forgot about us and the bible didn't mention us". Overall, it seems that the song was written as Samson was in very poor condition and she was reminiscing upon his life and their relationship, speaking of his hair as it represented his health and disease. |

| Birdy – Skinny Love (Bon Iver cover) Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I always thought this song was referring to a relationship that couldn't really be called a relationship; something was off and it was unofficial, or it was balancing on a thin wire. "Pour a little salt, you were never here"; with so little acknowledgement, their love could be gone as easily as anything (like Lego House by Ed Sheeran). However, this is the one song that makes me think: maybe Bon Iver didn't tell the meaning for a reason. Skinny Love can have so many interpretations, so let it mean to you whatever you want it to. Use your interpretation to reach out to the community, but let people make it up for themselves, you know? In any case, it's a beautiful song and I find Birdy's version better than the original or any other cover. |
