Empty Walls most likely refers to TVs in American homes. "When we decline from the confines of our mind" = Masses are waking from the TV propaganda (and media tries to prevent this happening) "Don't waste your time on coffins today" = Censorship (like many others here have stated It's also about how only the "positive image" of war makes it's way to the TV broadcasts. (compare with System of a Down's B.Y.O.B.) The end of the video shows how Serj and kids in the playground see the casualty of the real and grown up version of their playful kiddie war. Now they see from behind the empty wall. Song also tells about the aftermath of Iraq invasion, which is pretty self explanatory and the powerful will to go to war without better knowledge about the events. Like the army says: Do what you're told! (Intoxication = white phosporous, depleted uranium etc.) This is not a personal song though it is a personal statement. It's about (at the time) current events like Harakiri album Only Serj knows. |

" I (Jew) loved you (Germany) before you killed my family. It fits. " No it actually doesn't. Serj was born in Lebanon, so it's quite contrary. I (Armenian) loved you (Jew - similar to Henry Kissinger) before you killed my family. Also those "young turks", who killed Armenians in 1915, were jewish. He wants the Armenian genocide to be recognised. (Just like Holocaust/Shoah) This song is mainly about the Iraq invasion and the aftermath of 9/11. Serj even wrote an essay about "War on terror" two days after 9/11 called "Understanding Oil". Google it. |
