| Hey Rosetta! – We Made a Pact Lyrics | 12 years ago |

You and I made a pact A deal that as we lay dying We'd think about each other then And smile as we're taken in I feel this is straight forward to the title of the song, 2 people (friends, lovers, etc) making a pact that when they come to the end of their lives they will think of each other. I listened like a little child To the story of your earthbound pilot He plummeted so violent A parachute not opening And rushing to oblivion He broke into that knowing grin "I listened like a little child" indicates to me that this is an adult enamored with a story being told to them. "earthbound pilot" to me that means someone falling to the earth from an airplane (crashed? skydiver? IDK) the part about the parachute not opening and the rushing to oblivion is obvious, i'm curious about the "he broke into that knowing grin" to me it is either the story teller grinning, or the earthbound pilot facing death with a grin. I think about that a lot Cause a lot is what I've not got And a smile is what I least expect In the clutches of this darkness "a lot is what I've not got" to me means that the singer/author is older now and dying soon, or perhaps is ill and dying. "a smile is what I least expect in the clutches of this darkness" the singer is not expecting kindness, maybe he is older now in a nursing home and no one is visiting him, he is spending a lot of time remembering his past. You I was surprised to hear Your birdsong velvet in my ear The phone broke its silent stint I pulled the cord and I needed it You billowed like a bowl of silk And slowed me from my ruining pretty obvious this part is about getting a call from a former friend or lover, and being happy and grateful to hear from them. talking to that person eases their depression or "slowed me from my ruining" |
