To me, this song talks about living as a realist vs living with faith. The majority of the world's population are people of faith living for things they cannot see, that are not really there. It governs every tiny thing in their lives and they kind of implement that on other people's lives too. She is a realist, she's asking: "Do you believe in what you see?" Which I think is a parody to: "Do you believe in God?" or "..what you don't see?". They are living their lives in a fleeting way, waiting in line for death and the afterlife as if that is what is ultimately real not the life around them (wasting my time in the waiting line). Everyone saying different things to her, as in all the different faiths and beliefs and what they believe is "real". (and I'll shout and I'll scream But I'd rather not have seen?). but I hear it as "I'd rather not be seen", (There doesn't seem to be anybody else who agrees with me) This means no matter what you tell those people around you, who are the majority of the population, they will not listen, they are brainwashed. (and I'll hide away for another day) just living an obscure life among the delusional lives of the majority. |

The way I feel about this song is it's about an adult that has grown up to be a very messed up person because of the lack of love from his mother and the way she raised him. He always just really wanted to feel loved by his mother but never got it, and now that he and his life is messed up he still reflects on that and still craves her love.. A lot of messed up people, even serial killers, were a product of the messed up relationship with their mother, and it stays with them subconsciously for the rest of their lives. |
