So I few years late here but wanted to add some about "Just as I am." It might sound like it has a positive tone but this hymn was written in a moment of despair (which led to hope but did start in doubt). The lyricist, Charlotte Elliott, was an invalid for most of her life and had major doubts about the existence of God. She wrote these words to face those emotions and find faith on the other side. Since then it's become a bit of a trite church song that has lost it's original grit. I doubt that it was chosen randomly especially considering the tone of Daisy. It seems to also be a song about expressing pain, despair and maybe even doubt. |
