When I returned from the famous Other Planet about 4 or 5 years ago I discovered Fisherman's Blues and Mike Scott and the Waterboys on satellite radio. Immediately bought most of their work. I never thought of Fisherman's Blues to be connected with drugs, but took it to be a person's romantic or nostalgic thoughts later in life of what could have been or should have been. Actually I'm not sure I care if I understand the real meaning that Scott had in mind when he wrote the song. The mystery is a part of the beauty and intrigue of the lyrics and music, not to mention Scott's mesmerizing voice. |
