| Little Dragon – Shuffle A Dream Lyrics | 12 years ago |

This song is totally badass. The title might refer to the trippy "shuffling" feel of the song itself. The lyrics appear to be about a protagonist witnessing a very affluent, seductive man. The first verse conveys that she is viewing him disdainfully at a distance, with his expensive toys, his high class, and the line of girls out of his front door who all want to mother his sexy little babies. A guy like this can get any woman he wants. Therefore what other men view as their "castle in the sky," or their wildest fantasy, our man can simply "pick and choose." This man is a player, with many women vying for his committed attention. If you want some of his glorious sex, you better be willing to share. I think the chorus indiscriminately follows a girl as she is lured by the mans wealth and big presence. She blindly follows his emotional cues right into bed with him. It flips into reflection, maybe regret, as she ponders her decision to "want someone so vain" who is "stealin your soul" and leaves you outside "lookin at rain." Where the first verse and chorus seemed to be told from an outside perspective, I think the remaining verse and choruses are told from an intimate one. Perhaps our protagonist herself is caught in the man's seductive web? Regardless, she can now see him up close where his true nature is laid bare before her scrutinizing eyes. He is a "plain guy" underneath his superficial glow of wealth. She tells him to "play it big, cause the world made it easy to," because in the near future she sees his "deluxe watercraft" heading straight for those "shimmering rocks." The third chorus has a heady, orgasmic climax with Yukimi overdubbing a background vocal part. This part suggests to me that the entire song leads up to the rush of attraction and subsequent consummation the protagonist encounters with this rich, seductive man. |
